Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Jeffery August. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dr. Jeffery , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
I established my own 501c3 J. L. August Bridge Builders Foundation. I didnt know the correct steps to create a 501c3. I made it a private organization. Microsoft wanted to donate are $25,000 but I had to change the organization from a private organization to a public charity. This process would allow me to give a higher dollar amount to each mentee and give more scholarships to help students on the East Side of San Antonio.
Dr. Jeffery , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I have kidney disease so doing daily dialysis has made it a challenge. I still mentor at Sam Houston High School and at Young Mens Leadership Academy every week. Also, I have a 14 Year Old daughter, Aniya August, who plays volleyball for 9th grade Brennan High School and San Antonio Empire Club Volleyball. Finally, I am a Big Brother in the Big Brother and Sister Program
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I was going through my Doctorate program. I had to re-learn how to present and defend an argument. I had to recall my toastmasters training and use my public speaking tools to defend my dissertation. My dissertation was on training administrators in Central Texas to help Emotional Behavioral Disordered Students. This research helped me with my mentoring program
