We were lucky to catch up with Jeff Ruffin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jeff thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How has Covid changed your business model?
During the beginning phase of Covid-19, I had an opportunity to sit back and reflect on my long-term goals and where I saw the future of my business going. As a leader and entrepreneur, it’s important to revisit your business model to both maintain and exceed current operating levels.
I was able to make sure JDR Financial had the proper systems and processes in place to not only give my clients the best service possible but grow my book of business from a telephone and or computer screen due to not being able to meet in person.
It also challenged me with finding creative ways to network and get current clients to advocate for me. I saw several individuals in my industry not make it, so I put my own pride aside and asked the people who already trusted me with their finances to help. I leveraged my network on social media to try and stay top of mind and give thinking / talking points to my followers.
Jeff , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jeff Ruffin. I am a graduate of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where I majored in accounting. I have been in the financial services industry for more than 8 years. I assist individuals and business owners with building their financial houses. My company offers a wide range of services from the simplicity of life insurance to a full retirement planning process. All our services can be seen at JDRFinancial.net.
One of my proudest moments is being named one of the top 40 Financial Advisors in the state of Alabama by NAIFA. I think for me at the time I was only 28 years old. That opportunity gave me a feeling of gratification and I knew then this is what I am supposed to be doing with my life.
There are many ways you can help people today and many ways you can impact people. I have the pleasure and the privilege of not only setting up these families for success now, but also putting their kids in position to be financially successful. I like knowing that I’m not only affecting my client’s lives, but the generations after them as well. Every decision matters. To me that’s something I do not take lightly – that’s something to give your all to everyday. That’s a part of my legacy – helping others build theirs.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
People can feel your sincerity and passion for what it is that you do.I think that in any career, hard work and execution is what differentiates you from your peers. That’s something that says a lot without ever saying a thing. I make it a goal of mine to outwork people no matter what I’m doing. I like to surround myself with individuals who are going to push me in every area of my life. It’s my goal to be able to positively affect family lives all over the United States . People talk to their friends, their family, their co-workers about the experiences they have with JDR Financial. I try to make an impact on them in a way that they are not only happy with the solutions we put in place but to also be touched in a positive light.
I think it’s great to be involved in the community. I thoroughly enjoy giving back – especially from the type of neighborhoods I grew up in and around – it’s important to me. It’s important to me to show others like me that it’s a way to be successful other than rapping and sports. Especially someone like me that played sports his whole life. Sometimes all it takes is a young man or woman being exposed to something different for them to want different.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me has been the referrals of the clients already a part of my business. I think that is the ultimate thank you – for someone to show you that they appreciate the value you have added to them and their family.
I appreciate that so much because that’s what keeps the business growing. They could choose anyone they know but they chose JDR Financial.
