We recently connected with Jeff Pliskin and have shared our conversation below.
Jeff, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
One of the most meaningful projects I have worked on was documenting the help and assistance to those who were affected by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 on our local beaches, Long Beach, and Rockaway Beach, NY.
Superstorm Sandy had wiped out power and destroyed housing for many families in the area. We contacted musicians who had helped us give funds and generators to those who needed it for survival.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jeff Pliskin. I got into my craft from my love of music. It is my belief that music inspires, and with that I use my talent for positive purposes, such as documentation and providing a visual representation for the artists I work with that highlights their own truth in the most authentic way possible.
I primarily shoot Reggae and Hip-Hop music videos with some Punk. Candid photography is also one of my passions. I like to show the side of an artist most viewers don’t normally see.
What sets me apart from other photographers is original style. You can tell one of my photos from the light trails or the framing of my subject and what they are doing in the photo. Less posing, more natural lifestyle shots.
I am most proud of highlighting local legends as well as those who had inspired us growing up.
My work ethic is nonstop. I am never not working. My clients know that no matter what, the outcome of the music video and or photos will be nothing sort of monumental.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is to make others happy.
One smile is all I need to know that it was a job well done. If I can get a client excited about the work we put in together, my job as a documentor and/or director is complete.
I want to put together the most authentic visuals that represent the artists I work with.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
One particular goal driving my creative journey is PMA – a Positive Mental Attitude.
I discovered this phrase from listening to HR of the Bad Brains and am fortunate enough to be working with him on his creative team. If I can reach the masses through positivity and inspire fellow humans to follow the same path, my job as a creative is a success.
