We were lucky to catch up with Jeff Garner recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jeff thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
We are striving to bring awareness to the toxicity that exists in the fabrications and dyes within our industry as the chemical makeup is justified for cheap ingredients to supposedly serve the public for convenience and cheap price points yet it poisons our eco-system and our bodies. Currently we are in production of a documentary called “Let them be naked” to show the behind the scenes of the fashion industry and what the solutions could look like. As a designer and creative my mission has always been to only create what is a positive for both individuals and the environment…to give not take…and art for art’s sake not for commerce.
Jeff, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a sustainable fashion designer and documentary director working with natural and plant based fabrics and dyes. I have worked with a lot of different countries in working with local plants for dyes and natural fabrics that are still being made to help keep them going and create new industry. I have designed for a lot of music artists and also film. I have consulted with Whole Foods & Southwest Airlines on developing a sustainable apparel program that is not greenwashing. I believe that there is always a natural solution just might not be right in front of us or within reach but it is feasible. And in the long run it will serve us best even if more expensive at the creation.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes my goal is to bring awareness and help create a shift away from dirty industrial chemistry that makes up most of our toxic clothing in today’s society. We need to move back to natural plant based materials and dyes and create less and better quality to last longer.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being true to self and staying the path no matter what. Often times you can get side tracked by a shiny new object or a penny and knowing what you stand for and who you are in an industry that wants to constantly redefine you will only make you stronger.
