Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jeff Bertrand . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jeff, appreciate you joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
For me as an artist it always starts with an idea and a sketch book . I try and make it a daily journey of just putting my ideas on paper . Whether it’s a small sketch or simply some words . When it’s time for me to think about producing a large scale painting I grab my sketch book and I start flipping through to find a good concept for inspiration .
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jeff Bertrand I’m a Pittsburgh based dark folk artist .originally hailing from Nashville Tn . I make cartoony imagery on unusual items like ouija boards meat cleavers and bone saws. I’ve created beer cans for spring house brewing. I’ve also created album covers for various indie and Americana artists and t shirts for bands like Paramore . I do conventions and gallery showcases throughout the US .
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I’m known as a pretty prolific dark folk artist . I work unusually fast as a painter . I finish deadlines on time . I’m super dependable and last but not least I’m incredibly kind and insanely good looking . Jk
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I’m really bad about not living in the moment . I will do a convention or show and work my butt off only to be exhausted and not really have fun . So I’m learning how to be more choosey with my shows I do so I do not exhaust myself and to really just get to know my clients and make friends and just have a little fun.
