We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jecsy Lorena Ledman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jecsy Lorena below.
Jecsy Lorena, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
As a beginner, I asked friends to practice and create my portfolio, everyone was very supportive, and from there as I learned and began to generate income, I started to create my contracts and have boundaries when taking photos for people close to me. From there draw the line, it is better to have everything clear and know what your limits are as well as your friends, but I have never had any bad experience with close people, as I said before everyone has supported me from day one.

Jecsy Lorena, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always been taking photos and seeing my creative side since I was in high school. I have always known that one of my passions was to capture things with my camera; beautiful moments, landscapes, and anything that inspired me.
In 2011 I went to university to study industrial design and I had to take credits in photography. (2 years+) I did several in digital photography and one in analog photography (film photography), and from there, my passion began to grow more I started to work as the second shooter in special events like quinces and weddings for 2+ years. But when I finished my degree, I put aside my passion and focused on growing professionally. Sometime later I came to live in the United States for cultural exchange, then I married the love of my life and I started building a new life.
It was hard at the beginning, I started to miss that creative side of myself, and I began to study more and more to remember the theoretical and practical parts of photography. I bought a new camera, and some lenses, and from there I began to capture more moments. I started to take pictures as a hobby in 2020 but I started to think about photography as a business last year, Thanks to one of my friends who started photography as a business as well. I have been growing up slowly but surely, and I am delighted to do something that I am passionate about. I specialize in Portrait photography (Families, Couples, Kids, Elopements, Boudoirs, and Newborn photography) I think one thing that I am known for is my style of editing. My style of editing is Bold, emotional, and colorful, I want to be a storyteller, that my pictures make you feel something, and I try to connect more with my clients, so they have the best experience ever, those are my goals.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Doing model calls, and also attending photography/Creative meetings where you meet all kinds of creative people: photographers and models, and from there, they recommend you to others. I can say it is by word of mouth. The clients I have had come from recommendations and others come through social media/portfolio.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is that you can inspire many people with your creations and also that people can appreciate what inspired you to make that art. I love seeing people have different perspectives and points of view about what they see. I feel that’s what art is for!
