Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jeannine Coulter . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jeannine, thanks for joining us today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
In 2015, I had several month clean and sober. I had been homeless for many years and hadn’t had a car or drivers license in many years. I saved as much as I could while taking the bus and public transportation to work. I finally had about $1,000 saved and looked for a car. Of course. There is simply no way anyone can buy a car for $1K and I was incredibly discouraged. One of my fitness clients found out I didn’t have a car and GAVE me a car. It literally changed my life. I kept my $1,000 and continued to save and built my entire life with the help of that car and my first tiny bit of savings.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I inspire those either in recovery from substance abuse or still in active addiction to get or stay sober by sharing my personal journey of addiction and recovery. I have been in the fitness industry since 2007 and fitness has been my primary occupation since then. In 2019 I opened my own studio. Six months later COVID hit. My husband and I were fortunate that we were able to pivot to online and outdoor classes very quickly and our business actually flourished and grew during the pandemic. During that time I was suddenly struck with the feeling that I had not shared my story of recovery enough. I felt very suddenly that if something happened to me that I had not yet done what I needed to do to let others know that they don’t have to die in addiction. In the interest of sharing my story more, I started my podcast, “Chasing Heroine: Addiction Recovery Podcast.” The podcast has grown considerably since I started, and has led to speaking engagements for me as well. In 2022, my husband and I sold our studio and I took a job as the General Manager of a Cyclebar, as well as have continued to work on my podcast and recovery content.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, I want as many as people as possible to see that there is a path out of active addiction. I was a homeless heroin addict for many years and am now nearly nine years sober, married, opened and successfully sold a business and host a popular recovery podcast. I would never have believed that any of that was possible and I would have loved to have seen and heard someone like me, someone who was telling our story and had made it to the other side.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I am constantly consuming business and personal development content I’m the form of books, audiobooks and podcasts. This has been helpful in a few different ways. One, I am learning helpful information and mindset tactics to keep my businesses growing, but even more importantly than that, I am constantly learning new things to share with my podcast audience or fitness class students. A few of my favorite podcasts are Ed Mylett, Gary Vee, Mel Robbins and James Altucher.
