We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jeanne Rawdin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jeanne below.
Jeanne, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
I’ve learned through my professional experience that people’s reactions toward you are usually not about you at all. Everyone is going through their own challenges and struggles and they may just be having a bad day. The best approach always is to show compassion to others, no matter what’s happening.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve been a professional storyteller throughout several different positions, and then decided to start my own company to really embrace what I’m passionate about. I started out as a book editor, then became a newscast writer and producer, then an on-air reporter. Telling stories about surprising and inspiring people in the community was always my favorite thing to do. At Epic Storytelling, we offer video production for entrepreneurs, companies, authors, realtors, and anyone who wants a signature video for their website. We also offer coaching, voice-over services, writing and social media content. I believe video is the most profound marketing tool you can use, and we strive to find those unique and personal qualities to bring a story to life.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I believe every business or entrepreneur is unique in some way and it’s my job to find that personal touch — what sets them apart from others and makes them authentic and genuine. I believe that’s how we learn from each other, through sharing our uniqueness. I also believe emotion is a strong connector for us all and I strive to include it in my storytelling. People connect through their vulnerabilities and that’s what resonates.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
A recent book that I truly believe in is The Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann. the subtitle is “A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea.” That idea is that the surest road to success is to give. When you change your focus from getting to giving — putting others’ interests first and continually adding value to their lives — you get unexpected, bountiful results. This book is actually studied in schools as not only a way of doing business but a way of embracing life. That’s what I love about it.
