Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jeanie Schuerman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jeanie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
In 2015, I was crossing the street when a driver under the influence ran a red light and almost killed me.
Miraculously, I survived, but my life as I knew it fell apart. I was a mess. I lost my physical and mental health, my job, my marriage, my home, and my trust in the universe.
With gratitude, yoga, mindfulness, and lots of spiritual wisdom from people and traditions a lot wiser than me, I went on an epic journey to leverage the growth opportunity brought by collapse. I aligned with my deep self and rebuilt a more elevated, authentic life than I could have imagined pre-accident.
Change, big or small, is a chance for transformation. I know that people going through change need the tools to take their rebirth into their own hands.
It’s my calling to streamline holistic resources to navigate change and use them to support people going through transitions to uncover peace, purpose, power, possibility… and to have some fun along the way.
Jeanie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into yoga after reading the Bhagavad Gita, an epic text related to yogic philosophy. I had tried yoga before at a gym but it didn’t click for me. Then, somehow, I found this book. I was in Nicaragua in the Corn Islands getting my open-water scuba certification, and after diving, I would lay on a hammock and read. The Bhagavad Gita is one of those books where you read a paragraph and then stop to process for 30 minutes. My mind was blown and I loved it. I spent five days eating this book up, and afterwards, I was like, “this is what yoga is about?! I need to get into this.” I found a studio that was really in line with yogic philosophy and became obsessed with the practice. Later, when I was hit by a car and almost died, I was halfway through my yoga teacher training program. Having the support of the practice during my healing and rebuilding journey, and all the chaos and change in my life, was not only life-saving, it was life-elevating.
I created elevibe™ to streamline the most efficient, effective holistic practices to help people going through big changes use the powerful of energy of transition to level up their lives. elevibe™ offers online services that blend yoga, meditation, and life-coaching through a signature body-mind-spirit approach to inner energies. For anyone going through a transition like, “WTAF is going on!?”: Trust me, I feel you. Life is full of change. Change is wild. Change can be brutal and devastating. Change is also an unmissable opportunity for massive elevation. I help my clients uncover their peace, power and purpose to leverage the creative power of transformation and intentionally rebirth their lives.
What sets me apart from a lot of western yoga is that I focus on the inner effect instead of the outer lewk. Sure, a beautiful handstand looks great on instagram, but how is it impacting your life? If it isn’t nourishing your soul, elevating your vibe, and serving the collective, then to me, it’s not really yoga.
I most recently launched the Chakra GLOW UP, an online self-study course featuring a huge collection of holistic practices to detox your chakras so that you can see real-life, measurable changes in seven distinct areas of your life. This course was (fittingly) seven years in the making, and has been tweaked by feedback from hundreds of clients who I’ve helped cleanse, align, and balance their inner energies to change their lives from the inside out. Seriously, there have been wild results, like clients struggling with infertility becoming pregnant, clients with financial issues landing their dream jobs, and clients longing for love finding their future spouse.
I am suuuuuper excited for the Cycles of Change Collective Mastermind (real title tba) launching early 2023! I guide women going through transitional periods in their lives to master each step in the process of change (which is really the process of growth). By aligning their inner energies with the energetic flow of change through yoga, meditation, and life-coaching practices, these women release fear of failure and claim their feminine power as creators of their own lives. Informed by the natural cycles of change all around us, like the phases of the moon, the seasons of the year, the elements (Ayurveda), and hero stories and goddess archetypes, this community will meet live weekly for an entire year. I am ecstatic for this collective, because it is exactly what I was looking for when I was going through my life upheaval.
I am so proud and honored to be able to share tools impact people’s lives personally and uplift the entire collective. We are all on this journey together, and the fact that so many people have given me the privilege of allowing me to share their journeys with them is humbling and inspiring. People are incredible, and nothing gives me more joy than helping someone step into their own, unique power.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
In the new age-y, spiritual realm, there’s this idea that spiritual services, like yoga, and life-coaching, should be offered for free. There’s an idea that the “true” spiritual person is poor, and that “money is the root of all evil.”
I, myself, bought into this idea for a long time. On the surface, I was living the life dreams are made of: I was managing a yoga resort in Indonesia, a literal tropical paradise, and my job was the most fulfilling thing I could imagine, connecting with interesting people from around the world and teaching them my favorite freaking thing. But, I was broke af.
Because I believed that because what I was offering was for the highest good, and therefore, “should be free,” I was accepting way less than what it was worth to manage this yoga resort. I was also giving away extra yoga and coaching sessions to students I really connected with, for free, because I knew it would help them.
It took me breaking down over finances (at one point, I was making about $300 a month) to finally realize that this method wasn’t serving me. In fact, it was harming me. On top of that, how could I help others elevate their vibes when I wasn’t in my own highest vibe?
I started questioning my beliefs, and everything I thought about money. There are lots of spiritual, enlightened-type folks who helped me understand that money is not inherently evil. Money is just energy. It represents value. What people spend their money on shows what they value. By me giving away all of this insanely valuable teaching and coaching for free, I was essentially de-valuing it, and moreover, I was de-valuing myself and what I’m called to offer. By me owning my own value and earning money from the valuable services I offer, I am able to spend my money on things I value. Money is a modern-day means to change the world.
Now, in the business world, this is a topic that most business people don’t even think about. Business is all about money. It’s so interesting to engage with different perspectives about money, and to make money, by owning a spiritual business.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I love to see social media as a way to uplift the people who engage with it.
I focus on putting out content that helps people by giving them tools and inspiration.
I also try to have fun with it. Instead of seeing it as a chore, I see it as a creative project!
