Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to JEANIE DAWSON-BURRISS. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
JEANIE, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is providing a platform over the radio air waves to help build the Kingdom of God through Preaching, Teaching, Testimonies, Inspirational & Encouraging Music, Community Happenings, Community Outreach through the Just Jeanie Media Foundation Inc by serving others with food, clothing, blankets, cleaning supplies, etc.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My passion has always been radio since grade school. My mother would be in the kitchen every Sunday morning preparing dinner for after church and she will be listening to the radio, listening to gospel music and community happenings, etc. I found pleasure in the messages through music, and I liked the idea of keeping the community inform on what was happing in the community. I thought to myself, I believe I can do this as a way to do something for God to help spread his message in various way to reach others over the airwaves. My plan after high school was go to school and learn radio, but I was talked out of it, so I choose business administration instead.
Years later, I was diagnoses with Aggressive Breast Cancer. While going through chemotherapy and radiation, I had an opportunity to think about my life and spend more time with God. It then hit me, what have you always wanted to do, remember your passion? I begin to write down my vision that after this ordeal I’m going through, I will go back to school and learn radio. It was challenging since I was much older, but I did it with the help of God by my side.
So much I can say that has happened since I first started out in radio. I only asked for a one-hour radio show, once a week to play inspirational much, share community happenings and interviews that lasted one year which led me to Owning and Operating a 24-hour Gospel Inspirational Radio Station. I didn’t ask for it, but God blessed me with it. And for that, HE will ALWAYS get the Glory for Spirit Radio. With God, anything is possible when putting HIM first.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Continuously engaging with the community by having various events that involves other organizations that offers important helpful information that can make lives better such as education, health, addictions, food resources, employment, etc. Entertaiment, Prize giveaways and fun games for everyone.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
People have said negative things about the journey I’m on and preying on my downfall, I see that as a distraction because what God has ordained, nothing or no one can come against because this is what he has trusted me with so I will continue to trust him. I always keep my focus on the positive things that has happened and can happen. There will always be challenges and continues to be, but I promise myself that things will and has gotten rough at times, but I choose to stay positive through it all. Dwelling on the negatives will not get you where you need to be but can slow things down by focusing on the negative things. Positive mindset is a must for me.
