We recently connected with Jeanette Woods and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeanette , thanks for joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
In my business, the Design Thinking Process is hugely important. This involves empathizing, defining, ideating, prototyping and testing. It is an iterative process, meaning that we revisit these steps at various times. We have also developed our own Socially Conscious UX Design framework that connects our purpose and mission to our work. We leverage this to ensure that we align to community goals and are rooted in integrity. This framework involves the following three steps:
Integrity → Brand Perception and Delivery of Principles
Functionality → Accessibility and Functionality of the Experience
Collective Goals → Alignment of Business and Community Goals
Our integration of these frameworks allows us to move from idea to execution, while still ensuring that we include community and stay true to our design roots.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Sketch + Form is an independent strategy and design consultancy based in Austin, TX. We’ve helped well known, household brands and organizations create highly strategic and impactful design solutions.
Our unique focus on community building through inclusive design, research, data and design best practices, yields results like increased engagement and higher conversions, and we have the track record to prove it.
We offer design workshops and trainings, but our main offer is a strategic design audit where we help give you actionable suggestions on how to improve your site or app for higher engagement and conversion.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I began my professional journey as a young single mom with three jobs, in college full time. When I finally graduated, most of my graduating class returned to school for post graduate degrees, or pursued something else entirely, because the job market was in poor shape. I decided to stick it out and persevere, and after several freelance stints, I was finally able to land a full time design opportunity, which set me on the trajectory for my life as a business owner of a design consultancy. Being a single mom, through a recession, in one of the most expensive cities in the world, shaped me as a person, and really helped me to foster my resilience.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Working with a variety of different technologies and platforms, and being a really well rounded designer, afforded me the opportunity to work with well known brands, which in turn, helped me build my reputation in the market.
