We recently connected with Jean Palmer and have shared our conversation below.
Jean, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Dock Productions’ name is a derivative of my father’s nickname: Dackey.
Dackey was a father, a husband, a mechanic, and a handyman all-around, but many who personally grew up with him knew that he was a musician as well. Dackey was once a DJ in East Flatbush who also had a dope video camera, and he also played instruments as well. He passed away in 2006.
My time with Dackey was spend with visits and bonding over musical moments like learning new songs for him to hear and visits to music stores for audio equipment to help further my talents in producing and singing.
Dackey was one of the biggest supporters in my life. His passing shook the entire family, but the weight of his passing shook me mostly because of his impact on my life as a musician- even after his last moments with me.
After graduating Georgia State University, I obtained a degree doing what he always stood over my shoulder watching: Audio Recording.
After building a studio in the basement of my brother’s home, and began having company over to record and create music, a friend, also a business partner, David Bernadin, asked me what the name of the studio was called.
The Dock is what started Dock Productions

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
After collaborating with friends on projects and developing our skills, we all showed a plethora of talents and gifts that could be used for a client’s needs.
We specialize in Visual Arts, Music Production, & Media Support Services, and Dock Productions was created to immortalize and capture moments, giving a brief glimpse of the spark or magic at that moment in time for businesses, celebrities, local leaders, and families to promote and bring light to what matters in the community.
We enjoy producing projects that represents a mission and a purpose.
Life is short, & every moment is precious.

How’d you meet your business partner?
David and I would hang out to collaborate on each other projects and began showing other hobbies and things that we both loved. Before hanging out at The Dock, we met at College at 12Stone church, along with Lens Bigot.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My laptop was stolen at a studio we were onsite recording at. There was some expensive audio equipment that got flushed down the drain by a client during a break. Many times, there have been moments where there were no members or available contractors to assist with scheduled shoots within Greater Atlanta/New York job opportunities. Dealing with power outages, damaged/corrupted storage devices prevented the editing process to continue. YET, persevering through it all with any possible resource, it was fortunate that deliverables were still fulfilled, and has helped the company build stronger relationships with clientele who have, in return, referred us to other businesses because of the high morale in efforts to always find a way.
