We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jean Charles. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jean below.
Jean, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
To start off, I’ve loved movies and TV since I was a kid. I remember being around 8 years old and going to the theater for the 1st time. Seeing the screen light up with all the characters on it. It gave me a rush of adrenaline! I would picture myself on the screen while the previews were showing. I would imagine I was the character in that story in that present moment. I’ve always had a vivid imagination.
I knew from that moment, Acting was what I wanted to do. It just took some time and courage for me to actually do it. And I love my decision. Acting is one of the hardest jobs I’ve ever done, while being equally rewarding.
I also write poetry and make music. I have a published book titled, “Dialogues With The Moon”. You can find it on lulu.com
And I’m working on my 1st music EP soon to be released to streaming platforms under my name or Just, Jéan C.
It’s going to be half spoken word and half music. I’m loving the tracks I’ve completed thus far.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m originally from Port Au Prince, Haiti. I grew up in, Jamaica, Queens New York.
Being an actor is my main creative outlet. As I mentioned, I’m also a poet/Hiphop musician and I do a little photography. I’m the resident photographer for Outsiders Los Angeles. You can see my work on the site for the LA adventures.
With Acting, I used modeling as a segway into the industry, by getting myself comfortable in front of cameras and being on stage. I then started training at HB studios in New York City in the West Village. Then I did my first play. Afterwards, I put myself out there by auditioning for smaller indie projects.
With poetry, it started by watching hiphop videos while being at a babysitters home after school. I was hooked and it drew me in. The sound captivated my young ears and there was no turning back. I picked up the pen and starting writing my own poems and rhymes. I used my words to create an apparel brand during covid called jesuishuman.com
I’m a self taught photographer. I learned by asking questions and using YouTube University. I hacked my way to being a great photographer. That doesn’t mean I took a short cut. I practiced a lot.
With any of my mediums of artistry, I want my audience to be able to connect with me and deeply feel what it is I’m trying to convey through story telling.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Books have been a major staple in my growth as a man and human being.
Here’s some that have tremendously impacted my soul.
– The Peaceful Warrior
– Pyscho-Cybernetics
– Think and Grow Rich
– Rich Dad, Poor Dad

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I just watched Denzel Washington speak on how important the theater is to aspiring Actors. He said, the “theater is where you learn how to act”. And he’s absolutely right! One of my favorite books is by director and playwright, David Mamet. It’s titled True or False. He drives home the point of getting most of the traing training you need from the theater.
Most people run to acting classes when they start out pursuing their careers. I say to any young or aspiring actor. Find a local theater and hone your craft there. In some cases, you’ll be way ahead of people whom just rely on acting classes. So, for me, I would’ve done more plays early on if I had understood their value back then. I’ll be in a play opening on December 12th called “Cut The Crap”.
