We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jean-Bernard Hyppolite a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jean-Bernard , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
It takes patience, consistency, strategy, networking and creating your own “luck.” I learned this for myself when I navigated a career transition.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a UX Content Strategist professional by day and a music artist, pop culture, and pro-wrestling-focused content creator by night.
I’m proud that I was able to genuinely navigate a career transition into the world of content strategy and UX.
Outside of that, I have always been engaged in creation and a lover of arts and entertainment. I’m one of those guys with a lot of random pop culture information in my head. I love to write stories, come up with ideas, and engage with people in a plethora of diverse conversations. I have channeled a lot of that by creating/performing music and being a co-founder of an Instagram account called “The Wrestling Crew.” I host a show called “Crew Talk” where I interview guests about the latest and greatest in the world of pro wrestling.
Potentially I want to continue to network and grow my audience which would lead to more and more opportunities to tell my story in my unique way.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I believe I have endured some unique experiences that would offer an alternative to preconceived notions of what the Black experience in America is. I also love music and movies and feel that once I find my footing I will be able to construct a special brand filled with a fresh and empathetic perspective. I have been described as having a “high motor” when it comes to telling various kinds of stories.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I was in a band and a job that was going nowhere. I had to make a decision and be uncomfortable. I networked, attended multiple workshops, and ended up working towards a career transition in the field I mentioned earlier. I have been able to use transferable skills to grow and learn in ways that have benefited me professionally.
