We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jean And Judy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jean and Judy below.
Hi Jean and Judy, thanks for joining us today. One of the toughest things about entrepreneurship is that there is almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?
One unexpected challenge we faced was finding the right packaging for our rings. We needed a box large enough to fit the certificate while still keeping the small ring box secure so it wouldn’t move around during shipping. At the same time, we wanted the packaging to be practical, sustainable, and free of unnecessary materials. After some trial and error, we came up with a solution: adding a thank-you and care tips card that could be curved to stabilize the ring box. This simple yet effective adjustment was a big relief and allowed us to finalize our packaging back in 2022, ensuring our products were ready for launch.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We’re two lifelong friends who’ve known each other for over two decades before embarking on this exciting journey together. As jewelry enthusiasts, we founded our brand with a clear purpose: to “Celebrate Joyful Moments.”
As busy moms, we understand how hectic life can get, often leaving little time to pause and savor life’s most meaningful moments. That realization inspired us to create Auroradia—a brand designed to bring a touch of shine, happiness, and positivity to everyday life.
Our jewelry is thoughtfully crafted to be sustainable, timeless, and perfect for everyday wear, offering a classic and simple look at an excellent value. Beyond the products, Auroradia is our way of building a community, sharing heartwarming stories, and supporting one another. Born during the isolating days a few years back, our brand became a way to remind ourselves and others of the joy that even the smallest moments can bring.
Through Auroradia, we aim to celebrate life’s beauty with every piece of jewelry we create and every story we share.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
Each platform offers unique advantages and challenges:
Amazon: It provides high traffic and excellent visibility, making it easier to reach a large audience. However, the competition is intense, and the fees can be quite high, cutting into profit margins.
Etsy: This platform allows for a more customized storefront and direct communication with customers and prospects, which is great for building relationships. However, it has lower traffic compared to Amazon and still faces a competitive market.
Website: A dedicated website offers a fully branded storefront and lower fees, giving us more control over our brand and customer experience. The downside is that we need to manage logistics ourselves and put significant effort into driving traffic to the site.
While each platform has its pros and cons, we’re leaning toward focusing more on our website in the future. It will allow us to expand our collection, gather valuable customer feedback, and provide a more seamless brand and purchasing experience.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
We stay connected with our clients and foster brand loyalty by adding personal touches that reflect the close-knit nature of our small business. For example, we often send handwritten notes or postcards to show our appreciation and celebrate special moments with our customers.
As a small company, we value building genuine relationships and take pride in being part of so many meaningful celebrations in our clients’ lives. These personal connections are at the heart of our brand and help us create lasting bonds with those who support us.
