We recently connected with JDR MOB and have shared our conversation below.
JDR, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
We learned to do what we do from constant practice and years of repetition. It takes a lot of perseverance and patience to work through the beginning stages and struggles of finding your sound as an artist. The one thing that would’ve sped up the learning process is moving out of your comfort zone is a big key.
JDR, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
JDR MOB is a music collective founded by two brothers in Houston, TX. Music has always been apart of our lives. It started off as something we enjoyed doing as a hobby, but the more we kept making music and investing in the craft, the more it became a passion. When we were flown out to Atlanta’s Patchwerk Studios to meet Zaytoven, it was one of our proudest moments, and from then we knew we had something special. From recording in the bedroom of a friend’s friend, to building our own studio, our greatest asset is our determination to keep going and improve each year. Coming from a background of extremely hard working parents, we had no choice but to adopt the habit of working day and night nonstop.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing all of your hard work paying off. Seeing that you were right all along about who you are as an artist. But along with that comes the process, which is a gift in itself. Sometimes we as humans can overlook the struggles because we want to reach a certain destination so badly, but we often times neglect the present moments that really define who we are, and when that happens, you’ll most likely become unhappy in the end.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Sometimes looking from the outside in, it’s easy to believe that being an artist is a glorious road, and that couldn’t be any further from the truth. As an artist, you’ll reach adversity 100 times before you even get a small push forward. But if you want success is all about how well you are prepared when opportunities come, because they will come, you just have to be patient.
