We were lucky to catch up with Jcrux Tilson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jcrux , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned to create art through my Therapist she helped me Is channel my creativity through my emotions Which had gave me the ability to create Beautiful paintings and express myself through art The biggest obstacle I feel that I had when learning this was that it takes a lot to project your emotions into your work. And sometimes you just don’t want to do it But in the end the results are beautiful and life changing

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As a Black abstract painter, I, JCRUX (Jermaine Tilson), channel my diverse experiences and profound connection to the East Coast to create art that transcends boundaries. From an early age, I discovered my innate passion for artistic expression, embarking on a self-taught journey that has shaped my unique artistic voice.
My upbringing in foster care has been a profound source of inspiration for me, serving as the wellspring from which I draw upon to craft a healthy and enlightened lifestyle. Through my artwork, I strive to shed light on the human condition, infusing my pieces with a profound sense of clarity and awareness.
My artistic process is not just about brushstrokes and color palettes; it is an embodiment of resilience, perseverance, and emotional vulnerability. Having faced immense challenges and overcome hardships, I pour my heart and soul into every artwork I create, infusing it with my deepest emotions. This dedication and commitment are evident in every brushstroke, as I strive to perfect my craft and create art that resonates on a profound level.
Art has become my sanctuary, a space where I can shape and mold my thoughts and emotions, allowing me to find solace and transcend the limitations imposed by my background. Through my artwork, I aspire to inspire others, reminding them that dreams are within reach and that success is born from relentless hustle and unwavering determination.
As a Black abstract painter, I recognize the importance of representation and the power of art to challenge societal norms. Through my work, I aim to contribute to the rich tapestry of diverse voices in the art world, amplifying the experiences and perspectives that have often been overlooked. I strive to create a dialogue that transcends barriers, inviting viewers to engage with my art in a way that ignites introspection and sparks conversations.
Join me on this artistic journey as I continue to push the boundaries of abstract art, infusing it with my unique narrative and unwavering commitment to authenticity. Together, let us redefine artistic possibilities, inspiring others to pursue their dreams and realize the transformative power of art.
Hustle hard, dream big, and let art be the catalyst that propels us forward.
-JCRUX (Jermaine Tilson)

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I believe the most awarding aspect is knowing that your art can change someone’s life and make someone feel happy and it will do something and affect someone besides your own self. And I think that’s an amazing thing to have as an artist because most people just create me as an artist. I never thought or never think that the work that I do could change someone or makes someone feel anyway. Because it’s how I feel when I work not others.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal and my mission that is driving me is just being able to create on a regular base day to day and just continue to make a living and live off of my art full-time So my biggest goal would be to have financial freedom through my craft
