We were lucky to catch up with Jazzmen Victoria recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jazzmen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission the drives your brand?
I grew up believing I couldn’t express myself without some form of harsh judgement or criticism over how I am expressing myself. Poetry has always been that outlet especially once I started performing back in 2016. I write to remind myself of my unique voice and to hopefully remind the readers of their own voice too. That it’s perfectly fine to be you no matter how different it may look to others. I write to express and encourage for the ones who find it difficult to shine their light.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve actually always written poetry since I learned how to write back in elementary and it just grew from there. I was extremely shy but loved reading, writing and even reciting poetry to myself. After going through an abusive relationship in 2016 and being able to get out of it I chose to try something different at that point in my life, where I went to my first poetry open mic in Dallas and fell in love ever since. From there I’ve self published 2 full poetry books as well as toured through out the DFW. I’ve also competed in poetry competitions to help with my performance as well as writing. What sets me apart is the same as anyone else, my story/ journey and the special way I create my own reality. It’s in my voice my style the way I write and perform. I’ve noticed on my journey the more I focus on me my craft has no choice but to also grow with me. My current poetry book is available “Reflection’s of God”. A book of poetry describing how I found God everywhere I looked including in me.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The release within it all while I’m on the stage. It’s the knowing of me doing this despite the fear of me speaking my truths. It’s like a breath of fresh air that I’ve been holding onto and at the moment I can let it go. It makes me thankful because I didn’t think I would be able to express myself the way I do now I never thought it would be possible but here I am living it.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes as a matter of fact I just finished 2 books that definitely helped in my confidence with my craft and tapping into my creative genius side. “The magic of believing” by Claud Bistro and “Feelings is the secret” by Neville Goddard.
