We recently connected with Jazmyn Wilson and have shared our conversation below.
Jazmyn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I embraced a risk and placed my bet on my own abilities! Despite having a satisfying and well-paying job that I genuinely enjoyed, I yearned to explore a venture that aligned with my natural talents. Cooking and event planning had always been passions of mine, despite my formal training as an Architectural Designer. Determined to take a leap of faith, I began by testing the waters with friends and family, and soon enough, my client base expanded rapidly through positive word-of-mouth. As the catering gigs and events grew larger and my clientele exceeded my wildest expectations, I faced a pivotal choice: either maintain my current job and keep the gigs modest, or fully commit to nurturing this burgeoning idea. Ultimately, I decided to seize the opportunity and here I am today, five years later, running a thriving full-time catering company!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My passion for culinary arts and event hosting fueled my ambition to turn it into a full-time venture, working independently while prioritizing the satisfaction of my clients. As a premier catering company, we specialize in providing top-notch services for a wide range of events, including intimate occasions, weddings, showers, milestone celebrations, corporate gatherings, and much more. The term “Sundry” symbolizes our commitment to diverse dining experiences, offering a plethora of options to cater to our clients’ unique preferences. What sets us apart is our unwavering dedication to delivering exceptional customer service and creating delectable dishes that leave a lasting impression on guests. We take pride in carving our own path and remaining true to our distinctive approach. The rapid growth we have achieved in such a short span of time is a testament to our unwavering commitment, and we are immensely grateful for our loyal clients who trust us to provide extraordinary services.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Throughout the pandemic, I found myself facing numerous challenges in the form of refunding funds to clients for canceled events due to Covid. Witnessing the unfortunate closure of many businesses and the struggles faced by others was disheartening. Although my work continued during that time, it was evident that things had changed. In order to adapt swiftly, I had to brainstorm alternative ways to utilize my skills. This led me to venture into organizing intimate picnics. To my delight, after I began marketing these events and attracting a significant amount of business, I noticed others following suit. One of the advantages for me was that I didn’t need to outsource anyone for the decorations and set-up; I could handle those aspects while also providing the meals. Even today, I continue to organize and host these picnics.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I have found that staying true to my work has proven to be the most successful approach in expanding my clientele. The majority of my client base is generated through positive word-of-mouth referrals. My existing clients consistently express their admiration for my exceptional customer service and my ability to fulfill their needs in a welcoming manner. The genuine care and appreciation I have for each of my clients is evident not only to new clients but also to those observing from the outside.
