We were lucky to catch up with Jazmine Powell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jazmine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
One of the things that I try to do to stand out from other catering companies is building a relationship with my clients.
Jazmine, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jazmine , I am the proud business owner of Urban Jazz Food For The Soul Catering. I am the proud mother of a beautiful daughter name Zoey, who is my driving force each and every day.
I’ve been blessed to live out my passion which is giving people the opportunity to sit and enjoy FOOD THATS MADE FROM THE SOUL. Whether that a family style meal , a wedding , a simple intimate dinner with a significant other or just a celebration of life.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The biggest source of new clients for me has been word-of-mouth. These days everyone is into social media which is great and I have gained some awesome clients by posting but most there’s nothing like a genuine word of mouth referral in my eyes!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the hardest things I’ve had to go through was going through a divorce and still maintaining my business as well as being a awesome mom to my daughter.
I used to beat myself up for having to get a sitter just to go out and do a catering or having to rearrange my schedule to accommodate her as well as my clients.
But through the process of trying to figure out my new path as a single parent I found strength to keep pushing.
As time has gone on I look back at where I started from and I look at where I’m heading and I am truly grateful for the journey because my relationship with my daughter and my business are both flourishing .
To look at her eyes and see that she gets to see her mother working to lay a foundation for her is no better award at the end of the day.
