Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jazmine Peterson . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jazmine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
As I child I would see the actors on tv and the performers on stage. Never would I imagine that one day it would be that someone was watching. I knew I wanted this to be my career as a child just never thought it was going to realistic and now here I am. It wasn’t until the age of 20 when I realized that I could make this my job.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into this industry at a young age. My first musical was the the wizard of Oz in elementary school where I was a munchkin. I was so excited to be a munchkin and had so much fun. As I got older I did choirs. I auditioned and got into my schools concert choir. The director of this choir was a brilliant woman. She made sure everyone in the choir knew how to read music and could understand what they were reading. This skill has come in handy so much and I will be forever grateful for that. That same year I made concert choir I got my first speaking role in the juniors highs spring musical. Again I had a teacher who was so kind and understanding of things that it ignited my love for the theater. Now here I am doing musicals, commercials, movies and tv shows. I’m a unique add because I’m a person of colored in a state of 87% white. Often in my industry I can provide a unique look to things.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Go see their shows! Go to a local musical or play. Go to a local art gallery. For date night instead of dinner and movie everytime maybe every other time go see local artist.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
That moment when you’re on stage and you have just finished either a monologue or song. Hearing the applause knowing you’re hardcore paid off. Seeing the smiles of people after the show as they wait by the stage to meet the actor behind their favorite character of the night. Just knowing people enjoy what you’re doing is so rewarding.
