We were lucky to catch up with Jazmine Lincoln recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazmine, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I first knew as a young child and a teenager that I wanted to pursue a career in modeling. Life can sometimes take an unexpected turn and throw many obstacles your way. I became a single teenage mom at sixteen years old. So my dreams, goals, & passions had to take a backseat so that I could raise my daughter. She became my number one priority, and I promised my daughter that I’d never miss any milestones in her life. I’d be there for all of her first in any and everything. She is now sixteen years old & I am finally going after my passions and goals; while making my dreams come true. Last year I decided to fully dive in and give it my all and pursue my lifelong dream of modeling, all while continuing to raise my teenager and working a full-time job. Since the beginning of last year, I have walked in two fashion shows for The Model Experience in New York Fashion Week and Los Angeles Fashion Week. I walked into The New Jersey’s Women’s Expo Show last October 2022. I have also been featured and published in a few magazines. I have also done a few photoshoots. I am very proud of all that I have accomplished on my own thus far; this is just the beginning.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a hardworking, fun, ambitious, and determined single black Mother. I got myself into the modeling industry by conducting research using Instagram, Youtube, and Facebook. I did a lot of research and background on agencies, magazines, and those I applied to walk in their fashion shows. My ultimate goal is to be signed by a modeling agency. I would love to learn and get my foot in the door with acting. I want to be a commercial, fashion, runway, print, promotional, and glamour model. I am most proud that I never gave up on my dreams despite the many obstacles I had to go through to be where Having my daughter at a young age taught me the importance to keep fighting, pushing & climbing to become successful. I can teach and show my daughter sky is the limit and never stop trying. What I want people to know most about me; I am a fast learner & I won’t stop until I get it right regarding any & everything that I do.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
In the Modeling, Acting, or any industry, no matter what you will always hear a bunch of No’s before you receive many Yes. But you must be strong, have thick skin, and have a very strong backbone. Not all will like or support you the way that you think. You must be your biggest supporter and learn not to expect so much from others so that you won’t be disappointed. No matter how big or little the win is a win and you should celebrate, even if you are doing so by yourself. And it is important to meet people and network. Networking is Key.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I learned that throughout life there are going to be good times and bad times. Highs and then lows. When you are leveling up that is when you learn who your friends are, your circle will become smaller. Many will become envious of you. You must surround yourself with positive people and always be positive. Not all will support you; even if you are the one who supports everyone. I had to learn in my thirty-three years of life that friends or family; many may not support or back you when you’re chasing your dreams and climbing to the top. But you have to teach and tell yourself that’s ok. I learned in this modeling industry it’s the people you meet and know for the shortest time who will be your biggest supporters; so you make it your job to return the favor.
