We recently connected with Jazmine Lacour Licensed Cosmetologist | Salon Owner & School Owner and have shared our conversation below.
Jazmine LaCour, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My journey with braiding began before I was even 12 years old. As a survivor of abuse, I struggled with feelings of ugliness—both inside and out. But when I braided my hair, those painful feelings would fade, and I could express myself in a way that made me feel beautiful and strong. This is the heart of my mission. It’s why I opened my Braid Salon and Braid School—to help other young women and youth find their beauty, both inside and outside. Through braiding, I want to offer them not just a skill, but a sense of confidence, a creative outlet, and the possibility of a brighter future. Whether they go on to open their own businesses or simply use braiding as a form of expression, I believe in giving them the tools to shape their lives in positive and meaningful ways.

Jazmine LaCour, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a three-time award-winning Braid Salon owner, licensed cosmetologist, and founder of my very own Braid School. I’m passionate about education and innovation in the beauty industry, which led me to develop my own product line, LaCour Essentials. I’m proud to say we’ve already gained three local Houston distributors, and I’m the only award-winning licensed cosmetologist and master braider in Texas to have my products available in local beauty retail stores, own a Braid Salon & Braid School.
What sets me apart is my dedication to empowering others through teaching. I’m the only braider who offers specialized mom and kid braiding classes, where I help mothers care for their children’s hair and teach kids the art of braiding—along with valuable business skills.
I take pride in being able to offer a space where people feel beautiful and confident, both inside and out. Whether through my salon, my school, or my products, I’m committed to giving my clients and students the tools they need to thrive. At the end of the day, it’s not just about hair—it’s about creating opportunities, building confidence, and nurturing creativity.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I established my personal brand, developed a content a strategy and stayed consistent. When you are first starting out it takes time to build a following. Establishing yourself as an expert in your niche helps the most.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Building a team takes time and managing a team while keeping everyone’s spirits high is definitely a journey. Here are three things I’ve learned that really help:
Keep the Lines of Communication Open. I’ve found that it’s so important to create a space where everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts and concerns. Regular check-ins and honest conversations help build trust and make sure everyone feels heard. It’s about creating a team where everyone knows their voice matters.
Investing in your team’s development is key. I always look for ways to help my team learn new skills and grow in their roles. Celebrating their wins, no matter how small, and providing constructive feedback helps keep them motivated and engaged. When people see that you’re invested in their growth, they’re more excited about their work.
Creating a positive work environment that is both supportive and fun work culture can make all the difference. I try to foster an environment where collaboration is encouraged and everyone feels included. Balancing work with moments of celebration and making sure people have time for their personal lives helps keep the team energized and happy.
