We were lucky to catch up with Jazmine Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jazmine, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
When I move to ATL in 2015 i was literally doing nails out of my dining room. I had no clients only my mom. So I printed up some business cards and started scrolling the isles of target and TJ Maxx handing cards out left and right. I knew what type of clients that I wanted especially if they had to come to my house. I was only doing nails part time so i didn’t expect to get an immediate flow of clients. It was about a week after I did my first card hand out that I got a call to do a young ladies nails for prom. OMG i was so excited but nervous at the same time because i was a home based business but that never bothered anyone. From then on i went from a booth renter to my own suite and have loved every bit of the process.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hey Yall, im Jazmine J. Your favorite Nail Design Architect and owner of My J Nailz Salon. I got my start at the early age of 5 where my mom owned a hair and nail salon. I laid my first ball of acrylic at age 10 and shocked my mom lol. I received my license at the age of 16 and have been in the beauty industry for the past 18 years. I always did nails part time but in 2017 I decided to quit my job and go full time. I haven’t looked for a job since.
I consider myself an educating nail tech , all of my clients come and leave with knowledge about my services, process, and products that I’m offering and using. When I service a client for the first time I always tell them “ Get rid of what ever you know from other nail salons and or nail techs I’m nothing like them”
I love all things nails and toes from Acrylic to nail art and pedicures. I also recently created a line of Body scrubs and Body Butters. I was so tired of buying other companies spa products so I decided to create my own that we use in the salon as well.
Im located in the Sandy Springs Area so if you’re in need of a new nail salon with a great experience and vibe feel free to check me out.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
From Corporate to Full Time Entrepreneur
In 2017, I decided to throw in the towel at my corporate job to fully chase my dreams. So let me rewind I moved to Atlanta in 2015 I never expected to take off with my nail career the way that I did.
Let’s be clear people in ATL care about their looks so beauty professionals are really essential here LOL…As big as the city and surrounding areas are their is room for all of us especially when you surround yourself with the right people. As time went on I started to not like the politics involved in the corporate world and I really didn’t see much more growth for me there. I started part time at Luxe Nail Bar doing nails one day per week. Well i began to be booked on my one day so i added a half day on Wednesdays and the demand for my services grew. However I couldn’t accommodate more clients because I had a full time job. I had this little voice keep saying just quit you got this but lets admit I had 1 child at the time and my stability was #1 I mean what if I couldn’t make the money or afford to pay all my bills this was the fear that was holding me back. Honestly i began to pray and tell God exactly what I wanted. I was getting calls to work on tv productions and 9/10 i had to turn them down because i was at that 9-5. I said to my self if I don’t make a decision I’m going to miss out on way more opportunities. I ended up being take off of work which allowed me to temporarily open my schedule more days. So I said Lord I need you to show me that I can make it on my own. In my first month I literally made my entire gross income short literally 1 penny. I knew then that it was time to turn in my 2 weeks. I waited a month and turned in that notice. Here we are 5 years later and I can say that I have been a successful Nail Artist. I haven’t had to look at another j0b. So continue to Chase your dreams. I never want to look back on life and think what would have happened if i would have just quit that job,
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The main thing that help me build and continuously build in my industry is CONSISTENCY. The saying is true Consistency is Key. People want to see what your doing and how you’re doing it. I try my best to keep great energy and provide an educational environment. I want people to trust me and know that I take my business seriously. Once a person loves you and your services they will brag about it which helps your reputation.
