Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jazmine Harris . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jazmine , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Have you ever wanted to take a leap of faith but were too afraid to do so because you were worried you would fail? Well, don’t worry; it’s acceptable to make a mistake. Because there is always a chance to try again, do you know? A new endeavor or opportunity is all part of life. Failure, my friend, is a good thing. It’s possible that now is not the right time for you to move forward. Listen, I’ve experienced failure. I’m not going to act like I have everything together because I don’t, but I can say that I am a young lady who knows God. With me being a self-published author and educator, there are three elements to faith that enable me to take risks. Thinking big, talking big, and acting big are the three essentials. You must think big in order to take a risk in your life. What do I mean when I say “Think Big”? You make use of creative thinking. Talk Big is the next one. When I talk big, what do I mean? You must speak something into existence for it to manifest on your behalf. that all is going to turn out for the best in the end. Act Big comes in last. Act as if it has already been fulfilled. Whatever your dream might be, you must pursue it. That means that you cannot simply sit around and predict that everything will be peaches and ice cream. No, my friend, you must put in some effort. Just to be clear, I didn’t suddenly start publishing. I needed to conduct some research. I had to get in touch with other authors. Even though being a teacher was a risk, I had no idea what I wanted to do in life. I kept switching my major because I was so young and had to attend college, but I always wanted to go to school to become a youth preacher. Listen, I had a full-time job, was involved in the youth ministry, and attended college full-time. I therefore had to conduct a self-evaluation. I had to ask Jazmine what you really want to do with your life. I can say now that I have been teaching for eight years, and I love what I do. I tell people that my job is my ministry. As you can see, I’ve always taken risks. Listen, I tried and failed, but guess what? I got back up and tried again. So can you! I have faith in you!
Jazmine , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We’ve all had setbacks in life! Well, that’s alright after all! It’s all a part of life, I promise! Now, listen, I lost my work in 2019 as a result of COVID. Yes, I was still earning enough money to cover my expenses. I suddenly decided one day, when I woke up, that I was going to write a book. Remind yourself that I have no experience writing or publishing books. Consequently, I went on YouTube. Hey, YouTube is your best ally. Hear this: I also got in touch with other writers. As an entrepreneur, one thing I’ve learned is that you need to network with other entrepreneurs. A lot of people believe that book publishing costs thousands of dollars. You’re mistaken, my friend, which is why I think it’s crucial to network with other business owners. One thing you should know about me is that, even though it was difficult and frustrating for me because it was my first time writing, I persevered through the process. because I have self-doubt. I said to myself, “No one is going to help me.” However, I had to speak positively and adjust my perspective.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
To some extent, all of us possess resilience. However, I believe that creators need a unique version of it. Because the next time is always scary, regardless of how many books or articles you produce or how frequently you publish them. And when you do yours well, everyone gets to say anything, criticize, support, or degrade you, which isn’t the case with so many other jobs. Everyone has an opinion. Writing demands a thick skin to ward off arrows and, at the same time, a porous one to let them through so that we can write and feel about our reality, truth, and human nature in a truthful and sensitive manner.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
We’ve all wondered at some point in our lives, “Who will support me?” or “What should I do if no one supports me?” These are valid questions to ask yourself. Hear me out: I have experienced that scenario numerous times. due to my lack of self-confidence and my poor performance as an entrepreneur. To be honest, not many people are aware of my impairment. Since I was a little child, many people have carried that stigma with them, leading me to believe that I would never be successful in life. I considered the people who were close to me to be my family since they believed in me. Remember, family isn’t always about blood. I’m grateful that my spiritual family is ready and willing to help me fulfill my purpose. Because my book was so open about my life, I was terrified of what other people might say about it. However, I had to come to terms with the fact that people will speak about everything. Yes, I received some hurtful remarks, but guess what? I don’t let it stop me from succeeding. I will continue to write and publish books.
