We were lucky to catch up with Jazmin Simpson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jazmin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents are my biggest influence when it comes to the ways in which I live my life. The morals, habits and knowledge that they instilled in me has been incredibly helpful while navigating through life. Admittedly, like so many children, I rebelled at first and didn’t understand why they wanted me to be the way they did. But now that I am an adult myself I am so grateful for everything they taught me.

Jazmin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been a creator my entire life. I have always been interested in music, drama and the arts. But my main passion is music. I love to inspire and motivate people and I believe music is one of the best ways to do that. Along my journey I have found a passion for real estate as well. I love the negotiations, finding people the right home and bringing my clients joy! With my career as a realtor and my passion, my music, I have made it a [priority to invest time and effort into my social media accounts as well. Creating more of an “influencer” like feel, bringing clients in and expanding my audience.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
You may not see it in my photos, but I am, in fact, 29 going on 30. I have had a long life full of ups and downs and the biggest learning moment in my life, was losing my son. I was 23 and he was only 4. I worked so hard to get my life to a place where I would be able to care for him on my own. That meant long periods of time without him, late nights and a lot of loneliness. Once I had finally gotten my life “together”, or so I had thought, I lost him. And not in a way that left me any moment to mourn – only time to regret and feel guilt. I had to try and resuscitate my own son… but he was already gone. Those moments in the hospital were the longest of my life… The lesson I learned from all of this was that money and stability aren’t all we need in life. Time and moments with our loves ones are what’s most important over EVERYTHING. Don’t let the culture fool you into thinking a lonely life of money and status is all that matters. Because when you’re about to lose your life or someone you loves, you won’t be thinking or caring about any of those things.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
What I love most about being an artist is that when I write, I get to let everything out. I get to share how Im feeling in a way that sounds so pretty that whoever I made it for just has to listen. lol But honestly I do it to make a connection. I want others who have lived a hard life to know that it does get better! And sometimes it gets worse… but my mission is to help people stay strong, motivated and positive along that journey. I also believe that female hip hop went the wrong direction a while back and it makes me sad. They say that its women empowerment by being raunchy and freaky but at the end of the day all it is is giving men exactly what they’ve wanted forever. Women who don’t commit but sleep around, love money more than a human connection and women who don’t want to heal Now, women take pride in their toxic behaviors which Im just tarting to unlearn myself. But the point is, if your making music for little boys and girls to hear, make it for a reason – besides money. Make it to make a change. Make it to spread love, Gods love.
