We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jazmin Rodriguez-Stranak a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jazmin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
In 2011, at the age of 17, I embarked on a thrilling journey in the beauty industry. I had just earned my cosmetology license, but my heart was set on a different path, one that veered away from the traditional salon scene of cutting hair. My passion, you see, resided in skincare and makeup, even though at that time, makeup careers weren’t as mainstream as they are today. YouTube beauty gurus and influencers had not yet risen to fame, and the beauty industry was limited to what we saw on television.
My dream was to become a makeup artist for television and movies, but I had no idea where to begin. Then, one fateful day, while strolling through the mall with my sister, we decided to step into Sephora. To my astonishment, a hiring table was right there, in the midst of all those beauty wonders. Without a second thought, I picked up an application and started filling it out, my hands steady with excitement.
I turned in the application, my heart racing with anticipation, and to my joy, they scheduled an interview for the very same day. It felt like destiny was guiding me towards my dream. The interview was a whirlwind of emotions, as I poured my heart out, sharing my unwavering passion for makeup.
A week later, the phone rang, and my dreams came to life. Sephora had hired me as a makeup artist. It was the beginning of my remarkable career in the beauty industry, and I knew I had found my calling. No longer confined to a salon chair, I could now express my creativity and use my cosmetology skills to help others feel beautiful.
Little did I know that this opportunity at Sephora was just the beginning of my incredible journey in the ever-evolving world of beauty. It was here that I honed my craft and inspired countless others to follow their unconventional dreams.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
