We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jazmin Reyes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jazmin below.
Hi Jazmin, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
It all started when I was laid off. It was hard to find a job that met my standards. I had to figure something out meanwhile I found my dream job. Bills weren’t going to pay themselves. I was great at baking so I decided to have a cupcakes sale to help with my financial struggles at the moment. Eventually my cupcake sale turned into a cake sale. I made small cakes not the best looking at the time. I sometimes doubted myself and I thought I was crazy for trying to make cakes. I wasn’t that good and I barely had customers . The thing that kept me going was my passion for it. Every time I would make a cake it would bring more passion and interest to me. As time went by I got better and more recognition around the city. I was from eagle pass tx and new to city and getting recognized was very rewarding. Love and a baby came along the way. Once I had my child I knew I had to work on a promising future for my family. At the moment (2020) hot chocolate bombs came about and I hopped on the train and started making them. My detailed work got better not knowing it would improve my ability to create a beautiful cake. With time came talent, recognition, and customers. I went from hardly booking to being over booked at times. I loved the rush, the adrenaline, and the art that came with it. I knew then I had found my dream job.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jazmin Reyes I’m from Eagle Pass, Texas I moved to central Texas 5 years ago. I moved because I was seeking better opportunities. When I was young I loved watching baking shows and cooking shows. One time my uncle had a baker cancel his order the day of the event. I offered to help thinking to myself I’ve seen plenty of baking shows I can do it. I made my first 2 tier Minnie Mouse cake. Baking then became a hobby of mine. I would bake if I was sad, happy, or hungry. I then moved to central Texas and stumbled upon a job loss I decided to use my hobby to help pay some bills. My passion and interest for baking grew. I would tell everyone I was going to one day be a full time baker and people would laugh or look at me crazy. I doubted myself I let my dream go for couple of months. I thought I had failed in baking at that point. Along came a family I had my first child and got engaged. I had to make sure I did my part and I helped around with bills. I also wanted to provide a stable future and full on career for myself. I wasn’t able to afford collage so practice was my only way to the top. I started making cakes again. I was scared and I did doubt my ability at one point but I wasn’t going to let that stop me this time. I started dipping my hands here and there making a little bit of everything. From chocolate covered strawberries, cake pops, spicy candy, hot chocolate bombs, cakes and more. I was determined by then to make my self the baker I admired. Not every order was the best but I can guarantee you I gave it my all. My passion and determination lead me to create perfection. All my treats and cakes were finally catching peoples attention. New and old customers started flooding in. By then I knew that not only did my cake or treats have to look nice but my customer service had to be on point. I gave my customers great service and products. From taking last minute orders to delivery almost a hour away. Hearing them out was very important and so was asking questions. Let’s not forget taste. It plays a big roll in customer service. All of my ingredients are fresh, organic, great quality, and rich in flavor. I take my time to perfect detail in each and every product. Im very versatile and can create almost any flavor you have in mind when it comes to cakes. I go above and beyond for my customers. I’m very proud of the fact that I am a self taught baker. I’m also proud of how far I’ve come. Looking back at pictures always brings tears of joy. It helps me see all the growth it always makes me appreciate where I stand. I bake out love it’s my true passion and my dream job. Baking has gave me a opportunity to make my mother, son, future husband and everyone around me proud.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I get to bring a smile to someone’s face. Knowing that I can brighten up any person’s day with a cake no matter the age makes me feel amazing. I’ve gotten hugs as a form of thank from children I’ve made cakes for and it doesn’t get better than that. Happiness in others is very rewarding to me.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience by doing small giveaways. I wasn’t from the city so it was tough but not impossible. Giveaways helped the most. I would giveaway small cakes and breakable hearts. They were a hit around the holidays. I’d also ask other small businesses to join in by giving away one of their products as well. Not only was I helping myself but I was helping others.
