Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jazmin Ramos. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jazmin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I wouldn’t trade my job for anything else. I absolutely love my job. As a mom of 5yr old I’m able to work around my clients.
I used to have a factory job. I didn’t mind it. Had great benefits but emotionally & physically tired of that job. So I decided to go to college and attend the nail program..

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Jazmin Acevedo Ramos
I’m a licensed nail tech located in Marion, NC
I was the first nail tech to graduate from the nail program at McDowell Tech. I am very proud to say I also have my nail salon called Velvet Nail Lounge.
I was a little delayed due to Hurricane Helene, but we finally have it up and running.
I’m very well known back in my town for mainly art and my long nails lol I can’t help it.
I’ve also traveled to classes and conventions in different states. And have met several famous people in the nail world. I got to meet a lady named Jenny. Jenny is Cardi B’s nail tech. She is a friend I can definitely reach out to if I have questions and also supports my work. I’m forever grateful for her!

Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
During Hurricane Helene, I had to put everything on pause due to no electricity for more than a month. Once we had got power I unfortunately heard bad news from the only grandma I had left who was feeling sick and well I completely dropped everything and got on a plane straight to Cherán, Michoacán in Mexico. I was down in Mexico for about a month to take care of my grandma. Unfortunately, my grandma passed in Nov 19th last year. As a business owner we have to accept good things and bad things.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I would say be honest with your clients.
Im not a nail tech that over charges for easy nail art. Im very affordable for my town to where im fully booked and not taking new clients. I really appreciate all my clients.
