We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jazmin Curney a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jazmin, appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
When I originally started my event planning business back in 2019, the name of my company was Cree-ative Events. The reason Cree-ative is spelled this way is because my middle name is Cree.
Fast forward to 2020, I decided to purchase another LLC with the name “The Cree-ative Touch” because I wanted to be known for more than just event planning. Last year, I decided to switch over to the name completely and I am very happy with my decision.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The start of Cree-ative Events, which is now The Cree-ative Touch, all came from me helping family members and close friends with small events. I really enjoy designing flyers/invitations, setting up decorations, and just the whole party planning experience. Not only do I plan events but I also design balloon garlands, create customized party boxes/bridal boxes, and I am currently working to expand in other areas. I love being creative and my mind is always brainstorming on what I could do next that would make me stand out!
I am proud to say that the 3 years I’ve been in the business, I’ve accomplished a lot. I think the start of my career came from a birthday crate set-up at Piedmont Park back in 2020. I had sooo much positive feedback and people interested in having crate parties because everyone thought it was the best way to party during the pandemic. Piedmont Park was my second home in 2020 and 2021.
Another accomplishment is that I’ve decorated 2 out of state birthday parties! I’ve also designed balloon garlands for two HBCU events. I’m just appreciative to how far I’ve come and there’s still a lot more to do.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I don’t have a story but I initially started marketing my business on my personal page, which is when I decided my business needed its own Instagram. Most of my supporters/followers are my friends and people that have been referred to me. Though my following is still growing, one thing I can suggest is REELS and consistent posting. As long as you keep the content coming, you will gain views and likes. That’s what IG is all about.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Honestly, word of mouth has been my best source. I would say about 90% of my clients from the beginning to now, was from someone referring me. I am super appreciative of that because I have clients who have booked my services more than once. I make sure to work extra hard keep my clientele. I hope I can gain 5x as many this year as the last.
