Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jazlyn Jade. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jazlyn, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
There’s this quote that I remind myself of because it’s helped me so much. It goes, “the easiest way to achieve everything you want in life is to fall in love with the process of becoming the best version of yourself.” There is a lot of definitions for the word “success” and most of the time, it is defined as some sort of overall happiness. I believe success is to truly live in your purpose, and to be successful is to actively live a lifestyle that feeds into your overall wellness and establishes your place in the world. When I say wellness, I don’t just mean physically; I also mean mentally, spiritually and financially. You know, growth and change are very painful at first, but there’s nothing more painful than being stuck in the same place in your life. Honestly, the pandemic really allowed me to sit and reevaluate my life and what I have learned from then to now is that self-discipline is the highest form of self-love. Once you have the vision of yourself reaching success and what that truly looks like, that is when the process begins. Self-discipline is not about limiting yourself and having a strict routine. It is about setting goals and planning out how you’re going to accomplish them and getting it done. You create routines that work best for you. You try new things. You surround yourself with people that bring you happiness and motivate you. You are honest with yourself. You give yourself grace and compassion and most importantly, rest days. This is the ever-changing process that it takes to become the best version of yourself and to reach success.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I began acting and modeling at a very young age. Once I started college, I began freelance modeling as a hobby, just to feed my creativity. Modeling allowed me to work with other creatives and bring their visions and passions to life. Through this, I fell in love with networking and meeting new people. During the pandemic, I started my fitness journey, which introduced me to a completely different lifestyle and a community of people that I didn’t even know existed. I began training with an amazing group of women who motivated me to reach my full potential and become the best version of myself. As a model and health major, I took my knowledge and began pageantry to use my platform to motivate and educate young women like myself, the importance of health and wellness and how it contributes to becoming the best version of oneself.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A very big lesson that I had to unlearn was the idea that in order to be successful, you must be disciplined; and to be disciplined, is to follow a strict and unrealistic routine in order to reach that success. Often times when exploring the ideology of what we believe is discipline, we tend to program our brains into this weird, robot-way of thinking. We start eliminating parts of our identity and stripping away things that make us happy. We forget about what it is to be human and how we’re all different and constantly evolving. Self-care is necessary in the process of becoming the best version of yourself. Being apart of a generation that is driven by unrealistic realities due to social media influence. I am constantly learning to be patient with myself and be grateful for how far I’ve come.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Surrounding myself with inspiring women definitely brought me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to gain confidence in myself and my story. Being able to connect and relate to others while sharing my story has allowed be build a reputation based on trust and vulnerability. Whether it is through social media, pageantry, or networking events, I always strive to be genuine and honest with people. What helped build my reputation was sticking with my values while creating an environment that allows people to be themselves around me and ultimately gain the confidence to be themselves around anyone without restricting themselves or feeling judged.
