We were lucky to catch up with Jazlyn Betancourt recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jazlyn, appreciate you joining us today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
One major thing that I have learned with becoming a business owner and also being in the travel industry is that you cannot depend on your friends and family to support you and you should not take it personal (although I know it’s hard to not take it personal). I have had more strangers support me in my business by booking trips with me, referring people to me and simply just sharing my posts than my own family and even friends.

Jazlyn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi! My name is Jazlyn and I am a Travel Advisor. I own Luxe Dreams Travel where I specialize mainly in Honeymoons and Romantic Getaways to Mexico and anywhere in the Caribbean. I got into the travel industry in April of 2021 around the time I found out I was pregnant with my second child. I have a family member who has been in the travel industry for around 20 years and she did try to influence me into getting into the travel industry since my senior year of high school. I never went through with it at first but I have thought about it a few times within the six years. Once I found out I was pregnant with my second child, something made me start thinking about travel again, and so I finally decided to take the leap and become a Travel Advisor.
Before getting into the travel industry, I actually became a certified Wedding & Events Planner. I never moved forward with branching out and opening a business in Wedding & Event planning because I eventually felt like that industry wasn’t for me. But everything I learned while getting certified, I was able to integrate into my Travel business. I absolutely love getting to know my clients as well as planning and booking trips for them based off of getting to know more about what they are wanting out of their vacation, what their preferences are versus what they don’t care for, etc.. I feel like a lot of people think that all resorts and destinations are alike and that they will get the “same experience” everywhere when in reality, they do not. With me studying all the resorts and destinations I work with, I am able to match my clients with exactly what they are wanting based off of the information and details they give me. From there, I am able to plan everything and curate a package specifically for them. I definitely feel like getting certified and Wedding & Event planning really benefits my Travel business.
What I am most proud of when it comes to my business is that I take so much pride into what I do for my clients. I absolutely love taking the stress and time away from my clients when it comes to booking these memorable trips. I break down all the details that they provide me and I research all the destinations and resorts I work with to make sure that they get exactly or almost exactly what they are wanting. I treat their trip as if it’s my trip and as if I’m going too! I get so excited for them when they leave and I constantly check in on them to make sure everything is okay.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Reviews from my clients and word of mouth has definitely been the most effective strategy with growing my clientele. Once my clients come back from their trip, I do ask that they leave a review on both my Google page and Facebook business page and I explain that their review allows me to help grow my business.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Some ways I built my audience on social media was by following a lot of businesses that are very similar in industries and the niche I was going for. So for example, I focus mainly on romantic getaways and honeymoons, so I followed Wedding Planners and Event planners and looked into their followers. I also reached out to some planners and asked if they would refer me to their clients that may need some help and to ease off more stress in regards to their honeymoon. I also started researching more trends on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok and started doing those trends but made sure it aligned and promoted my business which also helped grow my audience.
