We were lucky to catch up with Jazimane “Jazzy” Maryland recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jazimane “Jazzy”, appreciate you joining us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
As a business owner now that i think about it, I started my business exactly when God wanted me to start it. Not too late & Not too early, i launched my business July 2020 yes it was during covid but, it was a time where i could fully focus! As a business owner i don’t see a problem with working & running a business at the same time if you love what you do. At that time my company had laid us off for 6 months. I’m actually glad i started my business exactly when i did because i had time to sit, plan & execute my goal. I’ve been sitting on my business plan for 4 years i always wanted to start my Beauty Collection but just didn’t know where to start. Within those four years i linked up with like minded Women & Men and gained the knowledge i needed. I wouldn’t change anything with my experience even now that i am now expecting my baby girl May 2024 & working a new career cooperate job. I absolutely love what i do! That’s bring confidence in everything i do with “THEE JAZZY WAY BEAUTY COLLECTION”
Jazimane “Jazzy”, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The main goal of my business is to show women & anyone that whatever you put your mind too you can achieve it no matter what. I’vegotten into the beauty industry by modeling, With modeling i would do my own makeup for shows, watch videos and also study women around me that does the same thing. The discpline started by simply writing down all my goals and not pressing the issue that it might not happen right now, but its going to come right on time. Mind you i had my business plan for 4 years, some ideas changed and some were added. I also knew since a little girl that i wanted to start a lipgloss business but i knew i needed a plan to get there. Even though i have taken a break from the Runway and doing clients makeup i still have my business. My beauty collection still have its online store & i know sometimes you might not have a sell everyday. But, i can always pickup where i left off and come back stronger when my beautiful baby girl is born. I have an eye for fashion and this time it wont just be me it will be me & my daugther.
How did you build your audience on social media?
How did i build my audience on social media, Networking is a thing!! That saying where they say your Network is your Net worth is very true. You have to put yourself out there, You have to show up to different networking events, casting etc. Basically you have to get in the room! Everywhere i go i make sure im looking good, have a business card/comp card & also talking about my business and how they can find me.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me have been word of mouth and social media, I never thought i would be doing other people makeup matter of fact i didnt think i was that good, I really get a thrill with doing my own and taking me a cute picture but, the more i do it on myself and others the excited i get to learn new things and attract new clients.
