We recently connected with Ja’Zaria Hall and have shared our conversation below.
Ja’Zaria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I definitely do find the most joy when creating art in any capacity, but like any other artist, I wonder what else I’d be occupied with. Becoming a full time artist had been my decided trajectory since childhood, but i did entertain the thought of a more traditional academic career. Growing up on the Island of Oahu, I was obsessed with the natural sciences all around me, Marine/Microbiology and Oceanography were definitely careers paths I wanted to pursue, but … I was not gifted with an aptitude for organic chemistry … I am glad to have considered other options, as venturing outside of the confines of what is strictly “For artists”, has caused my art to develop in something I can definitively call my own.. everything happens for a reason and I am still confident in my choice to live by the arts..
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
at the moment I am 21 year old Afro-Japenese Animator & illustrator. Originally from Oahu ,Hawai , I am now attending the Savannah College of art and Design to pursure a fine arts degree in 2D character animation. I Began to share my art online in my youth and had been gradually exposed to the independent art community, which really influenced my career path. I think my unique background comes through in all of my art, I provide a type of representation which is only know growing in the arts industry.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The continuous perpetuation of art and art making. My primary objective as an artist, is to make what I have always wanted, to physical interpret those concepts brings me a lot of fulfillment. but ultimately, being able to participate in the indefinite community, heritage and culture of the arts is endlessly gratifying. there is so much to be in touch with, art as a concept has no barriers as a medium or message. It is endlessly inspiring to be an artist, each of us are mosaicked with the micro influences of our own experiences mingling with another.. I am very lucky and immeasurably grateful to have the platform that i do, to make the art that i can and have people interact through the appreciation of art! To be able to contribute to that, maybe be someone else’s inspiration, they’re favourite artist, or even a reason to make anything at all , is what i find most rewarding.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I don’t think I did anything special to grow my audience, genuinely being my self and and sharing what I wanted is what really attracted people. which is probably the most neutral advice i could give but, you truly get out what you put in. Naturally , I think people are drawn to authenticity, they want to see what you and only you can provide. Which is a lot easier said then done, to truly quantify your personality is hard when chasing trends in the pursuit of being “marketable”. not worrying about that stuff is key to being genuine.. it also, takes a lot of time , to develop yourself as an individual, co-opting that growth with “brand identity” is even harder.
