We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jaz Prezley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jaz thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project that I’ve worked on is my very first short film that I created, directed and acted in. It’s titled One Decision Away. This project gave me a lot of insight on what’s it’s like putting your own story together, from funding it, and just all around putting the puzzle pieces together. I titled it One Decision Away because, I feel as though we are all capable of making that one choice in life that will alter us for the good or bad. It is a great short film that will leave you on the edge of your seat wanting more! You can catch it on YouTube.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m originally from Milwaukee, WI born and raised. I moved to Atlanta, GA in 2019 to continue to pursue my acting career. I started modeling when a was a little girl at various fashion shows. I broke out into acting in 2015 making my debut in a national tv commercial by Columbia St Mary’s Hospital. I then began to do background work on top tv shows such as Empire, Chicago Med, and Chicago Fire. This lead me to feature back ground rolls and then onto principle print ads for companies like Potawatomi Hotel and Casino. Once I moved to Atlanta I was then blessed to be sign with an agent (Gill Talent Group). I broke out into theater work started networking with great people and started making a name for myself.
Another fun fact(s) people may not know about me is that I’m also a bartender. I’ve been a bartender for eight years now and I love every bit of it. I get to meet so many different people and learn things in life that you don’t get to learn at an everyday type of job. Bartending doesn’t feel like work to me. It’s more of getting paid to have fun and enter act with people. I’m also a brand ambassador for a black own vodka called Black Onyx. It’s a very smooth liquor that you can pair with any juice leaving you with a very satisfying taste. (you can find it at your local liquor stores) And addition to breaking out into producing my own film I also had the liberty in helping record New Edition’s band (behind the scenes the day and life of the crew getting ready for the show in Las Vegas)
I believe what sets me about from others is my personality, and my hustle. I thrive to be a good person in life no matter the situation. and I believe that shows throughout my smile, conversation, and just overall how I carry myself. As far as my hustle goes I’ve always been a “go getter” because nothing is handed to you in life and if it is, its coming with a price. It also makes me feel good when I know that I’ve worked so hard for something in life. The reward is that much greater.
I’m most proud of the fact that I have not given up. No matter how many lemons have been thrown my way I, just take them and make lemonade. And One thing about me is whenever I’m hired to do a job I will always give a 110% at it. And if you would like to see or hear me in action then you can catch my latest projects on Tubi, and YouTube.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I took a course title BOOK MORE TV by Christine Horn. It was an online acting course that taught you audition techniques. I learned a lot from this course because, it taught me how to “become the character” how to dress the part what to look for in the script, how to read in between the lines, where to look when your self tapping, etc. This gave me a clearer out look and mind set when it comes to auditioning.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
You get to be yourself. You are showing the world a different view from your eyes. Rather its turning a character into a remembering moment or just giving insight to something no one would have ever thought of.
