We were lucky to catch up with JayT recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi JayT, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
These past five years have been special. I’ve been able to amass Over 10 million streams on all streaming platforms and the single Fell in Love which serves as the lead single to my new project which I wrote and was produced by Robin Wesley has now passed over 6.1 million streams I’ve truly been blessed by GOD. I’ve been working on my new EP “8” to commemorate my eight years as a recording artist. I’m excited to be releasing Part one of the three part project this fall with the projects new single “Let Go” coming out in the next few weeks. I’ve been blessed to be able to make my TV debut this past November and will be appearing on seven different television and movie projects this year. I’m also SUPER excited to be making my debut as a television director and producer this year. 2023 is full of incredible moments to come. I’m ready

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I first got my start in the industry at the famous Apollo Theater in 2006 where I won the Kids star of tomorrow competition. From there I auditioned for seven major labels by the time I was 13. Took sometime off to finish high school and began my career with my first single Come Together which got me in the door of Sony Records for an audition. I then released my breakthrough single “Thinking Bout You” produced by platinum selling producer (Future, Rihanna) in 2016. After charting on US mainstream radio, over 700,000 streams and going top 3 in the Philippines on Spotify the rest is history
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think the best thing society can do to support creatives especially Black creatives is to give them time to cultivate and create their sound and musically identity. It’s great to be compared and mentioned in the same vein as legends who came before you but it’s really important that an artist gets the chance to showcase their musically identity for a long lasting career.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Hearing people from all over the globe from South America, the Philippines, different countries in the continent of Africa as well as many incredible fans in America reach out to me and tell me that a record that wrote inspired them or touched them means the world as a songwriter. We are vessels and getting the opportunity to be the soundtrack to people’s lives is something I don’t take for granted.
