Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jayson Tucker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jayson, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
since always having an interest in photography I always took pictures for fun. Getting my first DSLR and doing some basic research about the fundamentals of photography for example, exposure, rule of thirds, understanding the technical aspects I then started taking photographs of family members, plants around the house, anything I could get access. When a picture didn’t come out how I would like, I would go back and change the setttings until I knew what I was doing.

Jayson, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hey, I’m Jayson Tucker. I am a natural lighter photographer. I got in photography after studying architecture for a few years and I discovered a love for capturing moments with my classmates. I got gifted my first camera by a family friend and it all came together after that. Before the pandemic I bought my first professional mirrorless camera and met my now mentor and friend Jik-Reuben Pringle and have been freelancing and honing my skills ever since. The real reason I specialize in natural light photography is at the beginning I could not afford any lights or additional equipment so I had to use the light that was available to me and that is how I’ve been able to set myself apart.
I specialize in behind the scenes capture, weddings, portraiture, lifestyle and automotive photography. If you’re looking for a natural, true to life capture of special moments or events that is what I offer to my clients.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal is to have my work inspire at least one person that sees it online or through previous clients that i have worked with. For the clients, I want them to have an experience that brings them back to the moment they were in when they see the images once delivered.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Living in Jamaica I would have wanted more camera stores to be available to me in the beginning and being able to rent equipment. Just being able to have access and see what is out there and learn different techniques with lighting gear and all that.
