We were lucky to catch up with Jayme Mason recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jayme, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for Wear Your Story came to me during a moment that felt so simple yet so meaningful. As a mom, I’ve always believed that the little things hold the most significance—like the first time my son said “mama” or the small traditions that shape our days. I wanted a way to carry those moments with me, not just in my heart, but as a tangible reminder that tells a story.
At the time, I was balancing my life as a stay-at-home mom, navigating the joys and challenges of motherhood while also sharing my love for affordable fashion online. I kept thinking about how jewelry could be more than just pretty pieces—what if it could be deeply personal? A charm bracelet or necklace that didn’t just look good but felt good, because it symbolized your story?
I realized there was a gap: so much jewelry out there felt generic, but what people craved were pieces that carried meaning. I wanted to carry charms that could celebrate life’s little wins—whether that’s a milestone as big as a new baby, or as small and sweet as a favorite coffee date. My vision was to design affordable, beautiful charms that would let women “wear their story” every day.
I knew this idea would resonate because, as women, we cherish connection and storytelling. A charm isn’t just an accessory; it’s a memory. And offering something customizable, affordable, and beautiful was a way to help women celebrate their journeys—whether they’re moms, daughters, friends, or partners.
The idea of helping someone pick a charm that sparks joy, tells a chapter of their life, or reminds them of someone they love—that’s what lit me up. This wasn’t just about starting a business; it was about helping people share and wear what matters most to them.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi! I’m Jayme, the creator behind Wear Your Story, a charm business dedicated to helping people celebrate life’s moments—big and small—through beautiful, meaningful jewelry. As a stay-at-home mom and someone who’s always been passionate about affordable fashion, I’ve always believed that style and sentiment can come together in a special way.
The idea for Wear Your Story came from my own life. Motherhood has shown me that the smallest moments often carry the biggest meaning—like my son’s laugh, our bedtime routines, or the quiet coffee moments before the house wakes up. I wanted to create something that could hold onto these memories, not just in our hearts, but as something we could see, wear, and cherish every day.
That’s how I found myself inspired to create customizable charm jewelry that tells a story. My pieces allow you to celebrate personal milestones, honor loved ones, or mark even the tiniest moments that make up your life. What excites me most about this business is that our jewelry is so much more than just pretty accessories—it’s a way to reflect who you are, where you’ve been, and what matters most to you.
What makes Wear Your Story unique is the focus on connection and meaning. Every charm represents a special part of someone’s life—a memory, a person, a dream, or a feeling. A bracelet becomes more than jewelry; it’s a reminder of your first baby, a best friend, or a day you never want to forget. A necklace becomes a way to carry your story wherever you go, a personal celebration of life’s journey.
As a mom, I know how valuable it is to have little reminders of what truly matters. I wanted to offer jewelry that is not only beautiful but also accessible, because I believe everyone deserves to own something special that feels personal. Seeing customers light up when they build their charm collection, hearing the stories behind their choices, and knowing that my pieces play a role in their lives brings me so much joy and pride.
At the heart of Wear Your Story is the belief that everyone has a story worth celebrating. Whether you’re marking a personal achievement, cherishing family memories, or gifting someone a piece of your heart, I want to help you create something meaningful. I’m so grateful for the chance to be part of these moments, and I can’t wait to help you wear your story.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
I sell my products on both Etsy and Shopify, and each platform plays a unique role in helping me grow Wear Your Story.
Etsy is fantastic for reaching customers who are actively searching for handmade, personalized, and meaningful items like charm jewelry. It’s a trusted marketplace with a built-in audience that appreciates small businesses and custom creations. One of the biggest advantages of Etsy is its discoverability—many customers find my shop organically through Etsy’s search engine, which helps me connect with new people who might not have found me otherwise. The downside, however, is that Etsy has limited customization options for showcasing my brand’s personality, and their fees can add up over time.
That’s where Shopify comes in. Shopify allows me to create a beautifully designed, fully customizable online store where customers can explore Wear Your Story in a more curated, brand-focused environment. What I love most about Shopify is the ability to offer an interactive shopping experience, where customers can create their own designs and build charm jewelry that reflects their personal story. Shopify’s tools give me more flexibility to implement features like custom design tools, a seamless checkout process, and integrations for marketing and analytics.
The combination of these two platforms works really well for my business. Etsy helps me reach a broader audience and attract people who are already in the mindset of buying personalized jewelry, while Shopify gives me the control and flexibility to offer a truly tailored experience that reflects the heart of my brand. Each platform has its pros and cons, but together they allow me to meet my customers where they are while also offering a space where they can design and celebrate their unique stories.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I first launched Wear Your Story on Shopify, I poured my heart into building the website, perfecting the custom charm design feature, and creating a seamless shopping experience. I was so excited for launch day, imagining orders pouring in and customers loving the ability to design jewelry that reflected their personal stories. But when the day came, the traffic was slow, and the orders weren’t coming in the way I had hoped.
It was a tough moment, and I couldn’t help but feel disheartened. I started questioning if I’d made the right decision to expand beyond Etsy. But instead of letting that doubt take over, I decided to try a different approach. I began attending local markets and events where I could meet customers face-to-face and introduce them to Wear Your Story in person.
This turned out to be a game-changer for my business. I set up a booth with my charm displays and shared the story behind my brand with anyone who stopped by. Customers loved the interactive aspect of being able to design their own charm pieces right there on the spot. They’d tell me about their kids, milestones, or special memories, and I’d help them choose the perfect charms to represent their stories. Those conversations brought my vision for Wear Your Story to life in a way that felt so personal and rewarding.
Not only did these in-person events lead to more sales, but they also gave me invaluable insights into what my customers wanted. I saw how much people connected with the storytelling aspect of my brand and realized how important it was to make that connection just as strong online. I brought what I learned from those face-to-face interactions back to my Shopify store, refining my messaging and highlighting the emotional, personal side of my jewelry even more.
This experience taught me that resilience often means being open to pivoting and finding new ways to connect with your audience. Working directly with customers reminded me why I started Wear Your Story in the first place: to celebrate the moments that make life meaningful. Those personal interactions inspired me to keep going, and they continue to fuel my passion for growing the business today.
