We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jaymar Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jaymar below.
Jaymar, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
For me, I think I’ve always had this super vivid imagination. I’ve always loved fantasy as an escape from the real world. I had a long day at work, life was attacking me too hard and I needed an escape. I laid back on my bed and imagined this young black man, with super powers fighting demons and just WINNING. He was unstoppable, powerful and you couldn’t take your eyes off of him and you understood in his fighting that he just had to fight tooth and nail for what he deserved. Peace. Happiness. Tranquility. That’s where it all started. That’s where Celestial Elementals was born.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Jaymar Jackson. I am a Self Published Author and Writer. I got into my craft because I had this gnawing aching voice in the back of my head saying, “You gotta finish this, you gotta get it out! If you don’t get it out, I’ma keep you up at night!” So Celestial Elementals was born haha.
Celestial Elementals is about six young adults who are chosen to be the next set of warriors in a Millenia old war for the balance of light and darkness. They have to learn how to work as a team before a powerful demon can shift that balance towards evil.
I think what sets the story apart from others are the themes I use and the characters I create. I want people to be able to relate to my characters and see themselves, when they are reading or listening to audiobook. I want the experience to make them feel like they aren’t alone and they too can fight their demons.
I’m most proud of my work reaching people. Whether it’s someone feeling inspired by the relationships in the book or them seeing a character’s change and growth and knowing that they can too. I love and appreciate when what I wrote. reaches someone and it sparks positive change.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
So I was laid off in December 2023. I have since been searching for work and I was searching for work even when I was preparing the release of Celestial Elementals.
It was such a bittersweet time for me and what I tried to do was learn how to compartmentalize and focus on my goals. Between worrying about the future and trying to self publish for the first time, coupled with voice acting and narrating your own audiobook; it was rough.
I spent days and night preparing the website, getting pre-order links ready, making sure final versions were uploaded, I wanted to throw in the towel so many times and push back dates and just give up, but I was so determined to finally get this story out and thank God its out now.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew about fiverr, earlier! You can find editors, beta readers, cover creators, illustrators, etc.. that place is really content central.
I wish I knew how to really leverage social media and TikTok these days! The internet truly runs the world! It can really make or break you. I really want people to lean into it. Make a page for everything. Brainstorm ads and content have things ready to post and put out.
