We recently connected with Jaylyn Roberson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaylyn, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I have yet to official launch my business specifically because I want to make sure everything that I envision is executed correctly. It all happened so unexpected and fast; my new skill/hobbies turned into a business. Started out just picking up a new skill for my personal benefit, then those around me (classmates, friends, family, etc.) started to show interest in my new skill. So I decided to give it a real shot and I’ve been inlove ever since. My business was created in 2018 and is steadily growing everyday. In today’s society I have to remind myself that, I AM on my OWN timeline, not anyone else’s. Another thing to remember is that you are the only person who truly sees YOUR vision meaning you are your #1 supporter!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Jaylyn Roberson and I attend one of the top HBCU’S in the state of Georgia majoring in Sociology with a minor in criminal justice. I am also the owner and founder of laidbybug. Laidbybug is a business that specializes in wig revamps, custom colors, custom wigs, and more! I work with EVERYTHING; new and used wigs, previously colored wigs, etc. My wig revamps and coloring services are the most popular. When it pertains to my wig revamps you could bring me a 5+ year old wig and I can make it look like a brand new wig. My business is bigger than hair though; it’s art, it’s an experience, and it’s a culture! With that being said laidbybug will soon be relaunching with something N E W!!
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
It all started out with me picking up a new skill for my personal benefit. I started out making custom wigs in 2018 and I have yet to allow anyone else to do my wigs or extensions since then. It began to turn into more of a business when my teammates, classmates, and friends started to show interest and wanted me to provide the service for them. From there clientele began to grow from word of mouth. I am in the process of upscaling laidbybug to exactly what I have envisioned for it.
