We recently connected with Jaylon Roberts and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaylon, thanks for joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I actually do have a regular job. Im a Behavioral Health Technician At Henry Ford. Im happy with the work I do as a creative because it creates this escape in order for me to truly express myself. I wonder what it would be like to do this creative thing full time and earn money this way.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Ive been writing music all my life. As I got older I wanted to began releasing my own music. A big part of that is having a cover art for your release. I didnt know anybody at the time who did that so I looked into it myself. For the last 10 years Ive been buying my own studio time and paying for my mixing and mastering out of my own pockets. I write my own lyrics and release my music myself. I always have to get on Canva during that process seeing how they have it set up to easily bring your idea to real life. I get lots of compliments from my artwork and other artists even ask me to make their cover arts for their music. Im proud of my consistency within this art form. After a decade in I feel like its no reason to stop now. I want people to know I eat, sleep and breath music and canva helps me express my music even bigger.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
When the music hits home. The cover art I create on Canva is something I simply use to draw the consumer in. Once they hear the music and fall in love with it, im satisfied as a creator.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Just to see how far I can go. Theres no specific number I hope to reach. I just want to be as impactful as possible.
