We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jaylen Pritchett a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaylen, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
Pool Cleaning- So earlier this year, I was pressure washing one of our clients pool deck area. It was a nice size pool deck area but as I was done with the job, I was talking to her about how some debris and dirt fell into her pool. She said “oh don’t worry, my pool guy comes every week and cleans it so he’ll be here tomorrow”. I asked her ” so he comes every week” and she replied “yes, I pay him every week”. My mind kind of pondered on it for a little while we were there talking. At the end of my day I had went home and did massive research on pool cleaning routine and how it goes. I was fascinated and basically said ” i can do this, this looks easy”. I did 2 weeks of research and watching videos on pool cleaning and chemical balancing. After that I wondered how i would be able to fit this into my currently busy schedule. I did it anyway and ordered my first batch of pool cleaning equipment and got my first few leads. I definitely messed up my first 3 pool cleaning leads and it was easy to tell that i was new but I stayed confident. I had a lot of troubles with cleaning pools at first but now I am really efficient and manage over 30 pools a month on top of our busy pressure washing schedule. Thats how the pool cleaning service went from an idea to full execution. Still rocking with all 5 star reviews so we’re growing.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Jaylen Pritchett and I am the proud owner of Hydro Blast Pressure. I’m 28 years old and currently running a 3 man small business that revolves solely on pressure washing services and pool cleaning services. I essentially wanted to provide a service that many to almost every person would need with also providing the best service they will experience. For our pressure washing services, we clean everything from driveways to roof wash. We also seal driveways/patios for a clean shiny protectant look. We have a few commercial restaurants that we pressure wash every month, some are every 2 weeks. We solve all of our clients by fully understanding their concerns and issues then we attack the issue best way possible. We’re not the company with big egos, so if it’s something bigger than us that needs a different field of work then we would relay that to you. Our customers and repeat customers are always satisfied because we go beyond for them and not the bare minimum. For our pool cleaning services, we provide quality cleaning so our clients families can have a fun and safe swim and provide solutions to their pool filtration systems. We can turn a swamp green pool to a clear pool in 1 day. We’re really proud of how far we become with business as we continue to grow. It makes us very happy that we make sure our clients are satisfied with our work. We really like to surprise our clients and future customers with gifts and nice gestures.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Most effective strategy for us is going door to door passing out flyers. It really works, but it’s just a hit or miss. Using lead generators are very helpful too. Have to leverage them to your advantage.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Have patience with everyone because they may not be the on the same level as you. Treat them with respect but also firm with them. I also buy them lunch to show them that they are appreciated. The biggest thing I believe that mean the most is when I tell them good job for doing their job and acknowledging it. I understand that they make mistakes so I also recognize that they made improvement. It goes a long way.
