We recently connected with Jayla Turner and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jayla , thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
The legacy I’m hoping to build would be, a legacy full of joy and love. I want to own serval salons around the world, I want all women around the world to experience a luxury experience at my salons. Women from all over the world traveling to get their services done by me. I put so much love and passion into my business my clients deserve the best. I think people will say I came into their lives, to speak life back into them. I always encourage people to try their best and keep going no matter what. I always strive to have real and raw conversations with anyone around me because, I feel as though it builds character.
I hope to be remembered for a kind soul who lived, loved, and always kept going. I want to be remembered for giving my all and putting in 110% everyday to make sure my dreams came true. So years later when people see my success they know I worked hard to be where I am.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello my name is Jayla Turner, I am a 21yr old Nail Technician, located on the west side of Cleveland, Ohio. I got into nails once I graduated high school, I loved getting my nails done so I would always pay super close attention when my nail tech was working.
I started doing my own nails and got super good, eventually I got more involved in my craft and started to invest in myself.
I help my clients by allowing them to feel human, I have had life changing conversations with my clients, sometimes we cry, sometimes we laugh, my clients will know I’m there for them no matter what.
I believe what sets me apart from other Nail techs would be, my pricing. My prices are super fair because, I charge based off of length so you can get any kind of design/ charms/ crystals/ French tips and more, all while just paying for the length. I always go all out for my clients. I charge a $15 deposit fee that goes towards your appointment. I realized a lot of nail techs charge a deposit fee that doesn’t go towards your appointment for example, they will charge you like $25 just to book with them and sometimes it’s more.
I am most proud of how much I worked on my craft that my talent is undeniably. I have family and friends from around the world begging me to start my press on business and I’m so proud to announce “Lastarr Luxury – Press Ons” will be launching January of 2024. I’m so grateful for everyone who has supported me this far, and acknowledged all of the hard work I have put in. I’m super excited for all that’s to come because, this is only the beginning for Lastarr Luxury.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to stop thinking that everyone around me was going to support my business! I use to post nails I’ve done and wonder why my closest friends and family weren’t supporting me.
But I had to let that hurt go ! It’s ok for people to not believe in your dream and support you right away, it’s your dream so it’s your job to put it in the universe that you are going to get great at your craft and that you will come out on top because, everyone has their time if you are consistent and work hard enough who can go against what God has already wrote in stone. The old Jayla use to be so upset when my family and friends didn’t show my business any love because I’m the type of person that shows nothing but genuine love and wants to see everybody win. A lot of the time people are in a battle with themselves so seeing you chase your dreams might trigger them in a way. Also everybody is living their own life facing their own reality day by day so I had to learn to not take it personal.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I would say the most effective way for growing your clientele is, by really putting yourself out there and making connections with people I have came across some of my best clients by randomly meeting them out and clicking off our vibe and they usually ask “who does your nails ?” Or “let me see your nails”, we exchange information and then they end up booking an appointment. I also get a lot of client by word of mouth. My girls in high school always sending new girls to me, and I appreciate them for that. I thinks it’s important that we wear our personalities on our sleeve especially in the beauty business because, I believe most women connect by just having conversations and sharing experiences and relating on certain topics.
