We recently connected with Jayla Parker and have shared our conversation below.

Jayla , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?

I manage myself but I have thought about trying to get a manager. I do feel like i can put myself in a bigger spotlight with the right help. Any opportunities I’ve gotten so for it’s been just from me putting myself out there in different social media platforms.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

Hi Im JaylaP , Im a social media influencer and entertainer. I’ve been on social media since high school but i wasn’t as involved as i am now . I use to be a dancer and would post a lot of dance videos of me and my dance team. I’ve had a few videos go viral back in the day . One was to a Drake song , i did a voice over video to PrettyVee video and it also went viral , PrettyVee actually did see the video. Now I’m constantly going viral on my new favorite app “Tiktok”. Now I’m 22 years old with a 1 year old daughter & we make videos for fun lol. Within the last year I’ve really tried to take social media more serious. I’m very heavy on Tiktok ! I was able to gain over 10k followers in under a year just for being myself. I don’t post to go viral i post because i love taking pictures and videos and just posting myself & what i like to do or go or maybe things i may buy for myself , family or daughter. One thing i can say I’m most proud of is being able to take such a hard lost and still be able to keep pushing myself to keep going . I lost my child father when she was only 4 months and it hurts everyday , but i still have to remember time doesn’t stop as bad as i want to go back in time i can’t and i have to keep going . Not just for myself but for my baby she didn’t ask to be here so i have to keep going for her. Even though i May com off as shy at times i know how to break out my comfort zone and be a more open on social media about my life and things I’ve experienced and have gone through with my followers. I would love to hop on YouTube and become a Youtuber , i tried about 2 times and i always delete the videos. But seeing how i was able to grow a following as quick as i did on social media just shows that people are paying attention and to keep them here i have to keep going with my content. I love social media , I’ve been able to meet alot of different people because of social media. I’ve gotten a few opportunities because of social media i just love it. I’m excited to continue to grow more and more and see where i actually can take myself being a content creator.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect about being a creator is going somewhere and somebody notices you. It shows that people are really paying attention. Regardless if they only saw one or 2 videos on the FYP or if they actually follow you. There have been a few times I’ve went somewhere and someone either said something personally to me or i overheard someone say my name and i turned around . Either way it’s somewhat rewarding to me because it gives me a good feeling to know that someone is paying attention & it makes me wanna create more content.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

I built my audience by just constantly posting different content. I continuously would change up what i post on tiktok to see what keeps people engaged in my videos. My most viral video right now is at haft a million views right now & out of all the videos i post i never thought that video would have went that crazy. The numbers go up daily still and i think i posted that video about 4 or 5 months ago. The creator herself reached out to me more than once to show me love for showing her love. For those just starting i would say try something new as often as you can to see what grabs people’s attention and stick with it for a while. No matter if it’s dancing , singing . reporting , etc.
