Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jayla Eskridge. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jayla, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
Being Misunderstood/Mischaracterized was always something in my life that i could never run from. i actually love that people Mischaracterized me off of my appearance because they never get to have a real verbal conversation with me to be able understand & know me. where im from people will judge you & misunderstand fast but personally i never cared because all of the misjudgement makes real genunie people graviate towards me & honstely that’s the only thing that really matters , the people who know me for me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi Guys ! My Name Is Jayla Marie Best known as Pretty P. I completed 4Years of college at Mississippi State University with a 3.5 GPA in the Major of biological science . School was never easy for me i acutally got so overwhelmed with school that i took a break from school in between the 4 years , in between the break that i took thats when i started soul searching into myself , i hated the fact that i was in college & i was broke and i didnt have the right amount of income like everyone else did , so alot of stuff i felt left out on because i couldnt go certain places or i couldnt do certain things with my friends which is what made me end up in the entertainment business. I became an Exotic Dancer the summer of my junior year in college , i was then able to pay for my college classes freely & easily and i was no longer stressed because i could go threw my senior year with a breeze , but the entertainment business is not all peaches & creme either….. It can get a little sticky. With dancing you have to know to have self discipline so that you wont be too tired and you wont get to sucked in that lifestyle. The Dancer Lifestyle comes with so much greed, fake friends, scamming, lying even sometimes death if you dont get out fast enough. I then in the time of me dancing wanted to perfect my craft in music & that is what my passion became to be music! i love to be in the studio and i love that feeling that it gives me to be so free in my own bubble.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson that i had to unlearn was “dont ever change yourself” i heard that consistanly as i was growing up. Now that i have grown i see now that that was not the best lesson that i couldve learned because i had to rewire my mind in a different way.The reason why i had to unlearn that was because its okay to change, your suppose too !With no change there is no elevation , theres no real progress if you dont change yourself. Self elevation is very important and over the years thats something that i had to realize. Not changing will make you uncomfortable in new places and make you shy away from things that could actually be a very good opportunity.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I love being an Arist. Im a jack of all trades because theres nothing i cant do ! i use my mind to create every vision and i bring it to life everytime. The most rewarding thing about being an arist , especially an artist that really creates is that i receive so much positive enegry. i love being surrounding by people that can make my mind expand. i love being noticed for the girl with the coldest flow or being noticed by the word play & the way i word things in my songs & being able to be recongized for something other than a dancer , that also what’s so rewarding to me !
