We were lucky to catch up with Jayla Burnett recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jayla, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
To begin, my business started in February of 2020. During quarantine, I decided I a wanted to start a small business. I am currently in my third year of college, majoring in criminal justice and I have a passion for safety. I came up with the idea of starting a safety keychain business.
Jayla, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello, I am Jayla and I am 22 years old from New Jersey. I currently sell safety keychains for women. My overall goal was to not only bring awareness to safety overall, but I would like to acknowledge that women need to own their safety when it comes to living an everyday life. My keychains come with window breakers, pepper spray, whistle, flashlight, alarms and lipgloss.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I would say attending local pop up events that I vend at. I meet different people who have never seen them before or have seen them on social media but never saw them in person. I also share on my social media platforms and have made friends from other states who have bought my keychains.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
My favorite sale stories would have to be when I vended at a local event back in 2021 and I sold out all of my keychains. Selling out my keychains was one of the most humbling experiences I’ve had since I started my business. It showed that not only I can sell out all of my keychains, but I can do anything I set my mind to. However, it showed if I keep up with myself and investing in myself, my business will go far.
