We recently connected with Jayden King and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jayden, thanks for joining us today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
My whole creative career, people have pushed me into a box. Notably, when starting making music, being labeled as a “SoundCloud rapper” was my kryptonite. I’ve always strived to make more than just rap music. Of course I’m inspired by rap, and that’s what I make predominantly, but I also grew up on David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Oingo Boingo, and so many other vastly different artists and genres. I think what allowed me to break out of the box was just making what made me happy. If that meant making a rap song, then writing an RnB song, then experimenting with country music. Not ALLOWING myself to be boxed in was ultimately what allowed me to break the mold I was placed In.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I began my creative journey at the age of 12, a time when the world seemed both vast and full of possibilities. From a young age, music has been my constant companion, a source of inspiration and joy that shapes my every day. It’s not just a hobby or a passion; it’s the very essence of who I am. If I were to pinpoint my musical genre, I’d say it’s a blend of alternative rap, cinema core, and a touch of my own unique style. This combination allows me to weave stories that are both visually and emotionally captivating.
My ultimate goal is to transport my listeners to different realms, to guide them through a tapestry of emotions and thoughts. I want to create music that resonates deeply, offering a moment of reflection and escape. Each track is a carefully crafted narrative, designed to provide a sanctuary where people can step away from their everyday struggles and find solace in the rhythm and words.
I am committed to being genuine and authentic in my craft, pouring my heart and soul into every note and lyric. My music is a reflection of my own experiences and perspectives, and I strive to create a space where my listeners can feel heard and understood. Whether it’s through a powerful anthem or an introspective ballad, I aim to offer a glimpse into the world as I see it, inviting my audience to join me on this incredible journey.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think the BIGGEST thing, is to just show up for us. Come to our shows, buy our cheap ass merch, share our art on social media. There are so many people in this world that can resonate with our art if given the chance. You could be the link between us, and them.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I think that leaning on the people in the creative community around you, and supporting them, while they support you, is a huge opportunity to grow and gain exposure. And I wish that I connected with more creatives in my circles back when I started.
