We were lucky to catch up with Jayde Mauldin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jayde, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
My mom is my hero. She didn’t have any real guidance growing up or anyone really helping her maneuver through life yet she’s always figured everything out while maintaining such a pure and kind heart. She gave me the best life and allowed me not only to dream but to follow those dreams and know that she will always be there by my side. Because of her, I know what resilience is. Because of her, I’m not afraid to face anything. Because of her, I dream. I strive to be successful not just for myself and my future generations but for her. She deserves the best that life has to offer and I’m determined to give it all to her. My mom cleared her retirement fund just so I could move to Atlanta and go to college. She helped purchase everything for my food truck & baking business. She has been at every grand opening, every important event, every special moment, as moral support and also a helping hand. She’s made so many sacrifices for me that have allowed me to find who I am and figure out what my passions are and that is why I am here today, doing what I love: baking. I owe everything to her and I plan on giving it to her!

Jayde, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Crazy about candy? Coocoo for cake? What about fruity surprises and the most delightful desserts? Well, look no further! The Treat Truck is your one-stop shop for all things sweet…ON WHEELS! That’s right, all of your favorite sugary goodies are coming to you mobile. My name is Jayde and I am the CEO and co-founder of The Treat Truck. I have been baking since I was a little girl in Cincinnati, Ohio and am now sharing my baker’s creativity with the world. Mix that with our other co-founder, Jr Wiltshire’s business mindset and limitless tasting abilities and you get The Treat Truck! You may spot us at your favorite food truck park, local sports and entertainment events, or maybe even your best friend’s wedding – we are here to bring you convenient and delicious sweet tooth satisfaction as we encourage our community to “bake the most out of life”! During the infamous COVID quarantine, I found myself baking every single day and had nothing to do with all of the sweets but eat them myself and share them with Jr. One day, he mentioned “You need to sell these”, and that night we spent hours researching and ended up deciding to purchase a food truck and starting a mobile baking business. As the world slowly opened back up, we prepared to be the new kids on the block. We started at local parks and market events and eventually opened a kiosk in Arbor Place Mall in Douglasville, Georgia. I strive to remain creative and true to myself and my baking styles while delivering top tier products and service to anyone who crosses The Treat Truck’s path.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
I was big on NOT getting any government loans, so our process definitely took longer than it would for some others. I worked corporate and one-off jobs to pay bills and save up for business needs. My business partner did the same. My mom helped as well and between the three of us, I have been able to slowly but surely get everything I need. When you start with a dream and are determined to make that dream come true, there isn’t much that can stop you. At least that’s true in my case. I don’t mind a slower process, as long as it’s a purposeful process. I started taking orders as a side hustle before I had much of a business in order, and I used that money to turn my side hustle into an established business. With baking, there’s a lot of overhead costs so money and funds can definitely get tight but with the right planning and tunnel vision focus, I got it all done through self-funding and family help.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The internet! I had a pretty good personal following on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube when I started my business and they were very supportive of my next venture. My audience enjoys watching my baking videos. I try to always create interactive or captivating reels and social media posts that stand out. In 2025, the new “word of mouth” is the internet. I get so many DM’s and private messages all the time from potential clients all over the country and that is how I even started shipping nationally. With consistency and great content, the internet can bring an unlimited number of new clients that love and support your business, as they did mine. It’s really amazing and humbling!
