We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jayah Washington. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with JAYAH below.
JAYAH, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
As a Philly-based home decor and lifestyle blogger, I have seen a lot of trends of everyone wanting a white neutral minimalist apartment. But for me, I want the complete opposite. I have a fun and colorful personality and believe my home should represent that. We have the seen the viral “white couch era” but I opted to have a yellow couch. My home should represent me and all of the places I have traveled too or cool items I have purchased from thrift stores or different events I have attended. I love to save money and want to show people you do not have to break the bank to have the Pinterest home of your dreams. I also love me a good cocktail and a fun girls night out. On my blog thatssojayah.com I show both my love for home decor and how to have a fun night out in Philly. Contrary to belief, club culture is not dead and you can dance and have a good time out right here in Philly.

JAYAH, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always been the girl to paint my bedroom different colors and to display all of my fun DIY projects. I love crafting and interior design and wanted to showcase my creativity on various platforms. My passion for colorful home decor and a good thrift flip has allowed me to build an amazing community. My goal is to show others how to have a renter friendly apartment of your dreams without spending thousands of dollars. Home decor can from anywhere from dollar stores or your local flea market. Hosting is truly my love language so rather I’m decorating my apartment for a cute girls night in or creating an itinerary in the city my blog is the perfect resource. I am proud to teach others to be themselves and don’t follow the trends that don’t align with you.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to really remove the stereotype of what is considered “luxury home decor”. I don’t want people to think that luxury has to be minimalist all white don’t sit on my furniture aesthetic. I want the fun quirky girls to know that their style is just as luxurious and beautiful. I want the girls in their 30s to know they do deserve a night out too and its okay to live that Sex in the City lifestyle you have always wanted.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A big lesson I had to learn is to not be afraid to post. I have seen so much growth on my social media platforms and saw when I started to make content that truly represented me, my following started to grow. Content creation has become more about personality over fancy edits and trending sounds. Getting in front of the camera and showing a non perfectly curated life is actually the way to go.
