We were lucky to catch up with Jay West recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jay, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I started the “Queen Up Movement in 2017 during one of my darkest and most defining seasons of my life. I was facing a tumultuous divorce, fighting for my son’s freedom after he was wrongfully accused of a crime and dealing with the heartbreak of being passed over for a promotion I rightfully earned. On top of all of that, I was betrayed by three of my closet friends (I’ve forgiven them all). Out of the pain, I believe that God gave me the vision, a purpose greater than my pain. “Queen Up Movement” was born to empower women from all walks of life who have faced betrayal, trauma, hurt, depression, anger and loneliness. It’s a space where women can heal, be seen, be heard, and reminded of their worth. Through this platform, I’ve turned my pain into power and my wounds into wisdom. Helping other Women to rise, rebuild and reclaim their Crown. I have a saying, “There is victory in the Valley.” Which means. at our lowest time we must figure out what the lesson is. Once we discover what we should be learning from the experience. It is at that time we will discover our true purpose in life. Subsequently, “Queen Up Empire is the evolution of the “Queen Up Movement”, a reflection of growth, expansion and purpose. What began as a Platform to empower women through healing and self-worth has blossomed into a full-fledged empire that includes a bold clothing athletic clothing line, an inspiring media company which produces a podcast on YouTube- Queen Up Chronicles TALK 1 and a purpose driven non-profit organization. The “Queen Up Empire” represents strength, sophistication and success. It’s about creating opportunities, building legacy and empowering women to step into their divine authority-mind, body and soul.

Jay, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The “Queen Up Movement” brand is a powerful, multifaceted platform designed to help women rise, rebuild and reclaim their confidence in every area of their lives. We provide a service called, “Author’s Assistance” which guides blossoming writers through the process of creating their books or offering professional ghostwriting services to bring their stories to life. Our creative team also designs custom book covers and logos that reflect each author’s unique vision. Beyond publishing, we offer podcast development services, teaching clients how to direct, record and edit their shows. We also include personal styling, personal shopping and wardrobe transitioning services. I work as a personal stylist dressing clients for any occasion; weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and any special event. If the client is in need of a Host for the event, we have one of the best in the business that will keep the event exciting and full of fun.
What I am most proud of is my strength to overcome every traumatic experience that once tried to break me. Through pain, betrayal and loss, I found the power to heal, learn and grow into the Woman I was always meant to be. I lost my Mother, Shirley “SHY” West, 6 months ago. I am so proud that I was able to start a business in her honor. It is a transportation company called, “Don’t be SHY” the slogan is “We are all Family here”. This is to create a legacy where she will never be forgotten and to establish generational wealth. The company provides concierge transportation services for events, schools, community programs, conferences, etc. During my grieving process, I was also able to create family card games. The brand is “Couples Connection”. One card game is for married/committed couples. The other is for Women to host a “Girl’s night” party. The third one is for Teenagers. This game is to be played with the child and his/her parent, guardian, Teacher, Mentor or anyone in the parental role. I believe in family and relationships. Establishing a safe space where everyone feels seen, protected, valued and heard is paramount to maintain its success.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I call myself “The Crown Corrector”, a Woman who uplifts, motivates and empowers others. There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing another woman rise, reclaim her confidence and walk boldly in her purpose. Helping Women understand that they can live life on their own terms, free of fear, doubt or limitations, fills my heart with deep gratitude and joy. Knowing that my words, guidance and encouragement can spark healing, self-love and strength in someone else reminds me why I do what I do. It’s a divine calling that keeps me humbled, inspired and grateful to be a vessel of light and empowerment for others.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
One of the most effective strategies to grow your clientele is to lead with authenticity and purpose. I believe people are drawn to what’s real, and being your true self builds trust, loyalty and genuine connections. Knowing who you are, understanding your worth and positioning yourself as a valuable asset in others’ lives creates a lasting impact. By offering tangible guidance and real-life wisdom, you become more than a brand, you become a source of inspiration and transformation. For me, sharing my own story of betrayal, hurt, pain and failure have allowed others to see that healing is possible. My authenticity has helped me form real relationships and attract clients who value honesty, growth and resilience. I believe that true success happens when you stop performing and start connecting from the heart.
